    Description

    Kia ora,
We are Chloë & Liam (+ 4.5yo & 1yo) - living in the Māniatoto, Central Otago, South Island on a sheep and beef farm.

We are inland, up high, about 2 hours from Dunedin and 2 hours from Queenstown/Wanaka.

We are looking for a solo traveller, couple of friends, or couple to help us put our garden to bed for the winter (we have a large section with some plantings planned, a herb garden, and new permaculture style food forest in the beginning stages). In the spring we will be seeking support to build and plant out our new permaculture inspired, food forest style garden which I (Chloë) have been planning and preparing plants for.

We live on a fairly large section within a working sheep & beef farm.

Relationship with land and food is very important to us, and we make all our meals from scratch, typically using meat from our farm and seasonal veggies. We are trying to grow as much of our own food as possible but have a very short growing season that we are still learning to work with!

We keep hens for eggs, have a pet cat, and several working dogs. As well as being surrounded by sheep and cattle.

We will provide a fully self contained cottage for you to stay in (2 bedrooms, one with 1 SK bed, one with 2 single beds).

We have a never ending job list but for now I will focus on pre-winter tasks.

With one of us full time on the farm, and one of us full time with two little kids, we really need some extra support in this area to nail a few pre-winter jobs.

    Jobs could include:
    Pruning plants
    Taking cuttings
    Planting garlic
    Laying mulch on gardens
    Planting winter cover crops
    Planting flower bulbs
    Laying plastic to suppress weeds
    Cutting firewood
    Washing down outside of buildings

If you have any specialist skills or interests, please let us know. Particularly related to herbalism, permaculture, building, carpentry.. (we have lots of projects & ideas planned) But if it’s something different, please tell us!

We will provide a fully self contained cottage for you to stay in (2 bedrooms, one with 1 SK bed, one with 2 single beds).

We can negotiate work hours and meals/food ingredients, etc. however, we expect to provide breakfast ingredients and at least one cooked meal each day depending on hours worked.

Our main meals are gluten free, so we can easily cater for fellow celiacs! We eat a lot of meat so cannot cater for vegans or vegetarians. No smokers.

    What else ...

We are 2 hours from Dunedin and 2 hours from both Queenstown and Wanaka.

We live at relatively high altitude and are surrounded by mountains, lakes and creeks.

There are lots of incredible bike tracks nearby (Naseby Forest for off-road mountain biking, and the Central Otago Rail Trail on our doorstep), fishing dams, walking tracks, and old gold mines!

If you drive towards Alexandra and Cromwell you will find lots of vineyards, wineries and fruit orchards.

We are a great location for people heading through to the Queenstown-Lakes District, the West Coast, Fiordland, the East Coast or down south to the Catlins and Stewart Island!

Pink and purple cosmos flowers bloom vibrantly in the foreground. Behind them, rustic wooden sheds and trees are set against a bright blue, cloudless sky.
This image shows a garden with various leafy vegetables growing in straw-covered soil, a transparent greenhouse, a small shed, and tall pine trees under a clear blue sky.
Bright blue sky with wispy clouds stretches above a peaceful landscape. A stream flows through grassy terrain, with bushes and a large, leafy tree in view.
