    About Us

Kia ora! We’re originally from South Yorkshire in the UK and made the move to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2012. I’m Marcia and I work in the not-for-profit sector, and my partner Matthew is an electrician.

We now live on a 3-acre lifestyle block surrounded by farmland, along with our much-loved rooster, chickens, and four cats. We’ve been here four years and are still adjusting to all the work (and joy!) that comes with looking after a big outdoor space. We are planning on making our space lower maintenance and creating an outdoor social area and of course this takes work!

We have two double bedrooms available – one of which has a smart TV – along with shared living, dining, kitchen and bathroom areas. We do ask that guests don’t bring pets, as our resident animals are a big part of the household.

Due to our rural location, you’ll need to have your own transport to get to and from our place – the nearest shop is in Inglewood, about half an hour away.

We look forward to welcoming Workawayers who are practical, kind, and up for helping out with a mix of indoor and outdoor tasks. There’s plenty to do, but always time to enjoy the views, the stars, and some good company

  • Help

    Help

We have numerous tasks we need help with, depending on the tasks we will work together or alone together 😀 Garden weeding, tree and hedge trimming, making mulch and spreading, removing a garden fence , clearing garden area in preparation to lay a deck, outdoor wall /fence painting, deck and path pressure washing, we need to dig a trench to lay electric cables, we’d like to develop a couple of paths and possibly steps to our back gate, On cold or rainy days we have plenty of interior improvements to complete too along with some mosaic art projects to install in the garden, and outdoor furniture painting.

    Accommodation

We have two very comfortable well appointed double bedrooms available, shared bathroom and lounge area. We provide all your meals and home baking and invite you to share your culinary skills with us. We do sometimes have home brew to share too! We have four female cats who are a big part of our household! One of the bedrooms also has a smart TV.

Our home is spacious, light and warm and you will be afforded privacy. We are a 3 acre rural lifestyle property surrounded by sheep farms. We are half an hour inland from Inglewood which is where the nearest shop is.

We don’t have phone signal but have good wifi and wifi calling .

We have lovely views of the valley around us and just a short drive you can get that mountain view. You can’t beat the starry sky views on a clear night and the glo worms. There is an outdoor community pool 5 min drive away and many amazing local walks close by. During summer there is great swimming spot or two at the Waitara river down by the Tarata Domain (10 minutes away). Most evenings you can drift off to sleep to the soft sound of the NZ native owl the Ruru (morepork) who resides in our dell along with Tui, piwakawaka (fantail), Tasha’s (wax eye), rifleman, chaffinch and kereru (native pigeon) to name but a few of the birds who frequent our garden.

We are 45 minutes away from beaches, great surf and the amazing Taranaki Maunga (Mount Taranaki). Taranaki is magical place with so much to see and do
