Description
We are a Swedish / Dutch couple who just start to restore our 120 year old farm. Our wish is to offer a off-grid experience . To reach that goal we need to build cabins for the volunteers, compost toilets, hot outdoor showers and everything what comes with that. We are harvesting trees from our own forest, we Mill the trees on the sawmill and build on the old fashion way as they did 100 year ago with the use of some modern tools and techniques.
So it is very interesting to see the milling process
In the barn we have two 120 year old worden sailboats who we are restoring one is a Nordic clinker boat , those boats are part off UNESCO immaterial World heritage. There is also a steel two master in Stockholm who needs new masts. She is now in use as floating apartment what Eva is using when she is in Stockholm.
We also having a bio crops garden on raised beds and a greenhouse. We preserve the grens from the garden ion jars. This year we filled about 300 jars with juice and vegetables and meat
For now we can have ONE volunteer, when we make it on time we can have a second one, as we build a other fual efficient cabin
The work what we do is:
Building a tiny house, micro cabin, water trailer with a hot shower, compost toilets, barn doors
That are the big building projects for the winter
Maintenance.. finishing a micro cabin interior. A sauna / exterior bits and pieces. Some painting in the big yellow house.
WE ( Eva and Eric ) harvest trees in our own small forest, helpers are not alow to handle harvest equipment in Sweden by law!!!!
After harvesting we bring the trees to the mill where we continue the milling from trees to our building material
You have your own micro cabin as a sovrum ( bedroom) with WiFi and you can freely use the extra kitchen With microwave, oven fridge etc.
We share meals for at least 6 days a week, we have extra meals ready ( home cooked) in the freezer they are available in case we are not at home or have a day off
We work 4/5 hours a day for 5 days a week. In the remaining time you can go skiing or ijs skating on the lakes, ijs fishing, the sauna is free to use and the cooling pond. Or you start your own wood project in the wood workshop as building a nice table or a cupboard
It’s really important that you have some social skills, in the way that we can act as a team, who also can play a card game in the evening and not only working
Eric is a senior carpenter and Eva is teacher who is teaching carpentry at several schools in Stockholm.
We are NOT a cheap place to spend the winter! This is a place where you can consume knowledge and new skills, this place have a lot to offer, we. Put a lot off time in patients in new volunteers so when they leave, they have some new skills and knowledge.
That means that we want volunteers who are willing to work and are mindfull and focused in what they are doing.
So we are happy with people who like it to join this experience and have a good time in the Swedish nature.
I’m so very okay with people who wanna learn new skills, I have a bit a problem with people who tell me that they are good with cars,,, and wanna changes the spark plugs in a diesel motor. In that case I prefer that you tell me, sorry I don’t have a clue
Or it’s also a bit hard to invite a lumberjack, who never chopped a tree!
What is important for me, just be honest, the most off the time I need a hand, never used power tools fine than I teach you how to use them safely.
We have for every volunteer safe work clothes, safety goggles and ear protection.
