Description
Hy, we are a hobby horse farm in the bavarian forest in a beautiful landscape and extremely perfect spot. The farm is situated single and the land around it belongs to the horses. There is a small lake, neat river, lots of trees with apples, pears, nuts and in the center is the historic building more than 200 years old with the stables in a 4-side-arrangement. Our hobby is to have, ride and breed horses - mostly of a special breed called kabardian, but also some baroque horses like lipizan and pura raza espanol.
Wir sprechen natürlich auch deutsch - da die meisten Anfragen aber in englisch kommen ist unser Profil vorrangig in englisch. Aber wir freuen uns natürlich auch über deutsch-sprachige Anfragen.
The kabardian breed originated from russia - or in detail the north caucausian region. It is a energetic, beautiful and intelligent work horse breed and we ride them for leisure, dressage, working equitation or endurance riding. We also - through the breed - have a lot of contacts to russia and the homeland of our horses and do charity projects in this topic. For sports we go on endurance rides with several horses on up to 80km for now but aim for more.
Currently we have/own ~30 horses. ~10 of these are retired and some of them are even 30 years or more old. We also have 9 horses which are 0-3 years. We also own 3 breeding stallions and each of them has its own group. One is with the young stallions, one is with 2 mares and a foal and one is with 2 geldings. We take care for stallions to get a happy live. In addition there are 4 horses from friends which are stabled here.
For support and for additional riders we have some people that come regularily to ride specific horses and work with them and they help us in exchange.
The farm itself is about 28 hectars most of it surrounding the main buildings. There is a riding area 20x40m wihtout roof and an arena 20x40m with roof.
The farm also has a couple of dogs - all from "saved-from-the-street" projects, some cats and we develop our farm in a consistent way. We have trees which are several hundreds of years old and plants grow on our pastures that are rare to be found nowadays. We offer a wide range o activites from farm hand to riding and caring for horses, helping us developing the farm or caring for garden, fruits, vegetables and so on.
Besides that we do some local charity like a regional open-air cinema, board game parties and some other events and we are in close contact with a good friend doing art projects, lectures and more on a small castle nearby. If you are interested you can support her as well.
We are open for all projects and ideas people might develop!
At the moment we reconstruct one stable to an event room for exhibitions, pop-up restaurant, game-night-events, sport lessons, special-cinema and more. We will see what comes to our mind :-)
We are a married couple and together for more than 30 years now both have a job in addition to our hobby-farm and charity projects. We are very open and enjoy getting to know new people. Our house has enough space for everyone and we are looking forward to meet you. We speak english, russian, a bit french and surely german and bavarian :-).
The farm is really our hobby and not a business. We both have jobs to earn our money there and not to have the need to earn money from the farm.
The possibility to ride here is an additional benefit of being a workaway in our place - in addition to accomodation, meals and nice environment and people :-) . How much you can ride depends on your level of riding as we do not have so many horses for real beginners.
When is the best time to come?
Difficult to say. Each time of year has its benefits and all time of year you might stand the chance of rain periods which might not be so nice. In summer a lake is close by. In winter you can go skiing (downhill or cross country) just 15min away. Spring shows all in bloom and in autumn we have often indian summer like atmosphere. So it is good nearly all the time :-).
For whom is this the perfect place? What can you expect?
1. If you like nature, harmony with horses and kind and nice horses, dogs and cats. Our place is a special place, the house more than 200 years old and the farm ~800 years at this place. Already several generations knew this IS a special place with theold trees, a nice valley, small river, pond and lots of energy and place to renew
2. If you like garden and farm work. There is a lot to do whatever you like and depending on the season. From vegetable raising and harvesting to flowers, to tree care or to collect and work on fruits.
3. We have a very positive attitude about our horses. We see them as friends - with which we work, but always with the aim, that they like it as well and after work they are happy. Also we see for our horses to have a very natural live - even our stallions. We guess, other people can learn a lot from this and also how to handle stallions, foals, work with horses, care for them including hooves, see foals getting born, cover mares - but all on hobby level and never with the aim to make money :-) - And with the shelter dogs we work similar. They are friends and love to be here. We do not need to train them, they just live and work with us and usually they listen because they want to.
4. If you know riding and are looking for a quite spot in nature with a good atmosphere to relax and enjoy, this place is perfect for you. Lots of beautiful scenery, the better you ride the more horses are available in all grades of education. Riding, hiking, biking through nature with great views close-by or a little further in the bavarian national park.
5. If you like good vegetarian cooking and nice dinner-talks. We can also do vegan on demand and also accept if someone wants some meat, but we would be happy to show you how great vegetarian dishes can be and hope you can minimize the need for meat.
6. if you see the work here not as a burden, but also as a part of the whole place which can even be fun, enjoyable and help to clear your mind when e.g. being around the horses and cleaning stables. For example we see the quite work often as kind of meditation.
7. The better you ride the more we can offer. Well educated horses which can show you a lot, training young or unexperienced horses, joining training rides on our endurance horses with up to 40km in 3 hours, advanced lessons for riding or even participation in competitions.
8. If you need/want some quite time "off the rig".
For whom is this NOT the perfect place?
1. If you expect party, disco, daily events and entertainment.
2. In case you want to learn riding as a beginner. We surely can help, but learning to ride will not work in a short workaway time and you will benefit here most if you already know taking care of horses and riding on your own. And providing lessons is time-consuming for us and we can not always afford this time. Thus we really limit this and prefer people who either just want to spend time in our place wihtout riding (which is also great!) or which already are at least intermediate in riding, are really able to galopp on their own, know what to do in an arena and how to shape a horse and train it. Out aim is to keep the horses healthy and thus riders on beginners level will be more limited in which horses and how often they can ride.
3. The house and farm are really old. The house is more than 200 years, yet it is renovated, but we have large dogs and horses with lots of hairs :-). In our house also live spiders , there are mice in the stable and surely not everything is always tidy and clean. It is just not our top prio. You surely can support to change that :-) - but please have that in mind.
4. we value openness and kindness. So rude and especially people with a "right wing"/facist attitude won't find a good place here.
5. If you do not like dogs or horses :-)Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The idea of consistency and a future for this extremely special spot where we live in. We do a lot with garden, flowers, vegetabels and fruits - and want to do more - just time limits us. The farm itself is so inviting and we try to enhance that. We build a meeting multifunction room and look for ideas what to use it for.
And surely the special kabardian horse breed and horses we have and the culture behind that is important here. The way we work with the horses as friends not as sports equipment - but on a very professional level. Riding skills to really advanced levels in many areas, but also for beginners. Breeding horses, contact with stallions (and how they can have a happy live), languages, the alternate way to live with the country on a careful base and caring for the future. The idea to bring projects to live on ecological, charity, cultural or sportive way.
And more...Help
We have the most benefit from you if you help us on the farm. The work here is very diverse and depending on time of the year and weather. Main task is feeding horses and to check all of them twice per day. In rainy times there is cleaning of stables, but most of the year this is not a lot as our horses are outside 24h/7d. Only in rainy periods they come inside. In winter they are outside as well when it is dry and/or frozen/cold.
Work amount and type is really following seasons and also projects we do. Usually during weekdays it is 1 to 2 hours in the morning and 20min at lunchtime. In the evening we often have other people helping, so it is usually only a small amount of work or none at all (0-1,5 hours). This usually does not sum up to 20-25hours per week.
In addtion we have some projects independant from that which you could pursue when there are no other tasks and you want to. OR we also appreciate support on weekends - if this is OK for you. We are very flexible though, thus if you want to travel some days, visit friends or do sightseeing - we will always find ways to support you here. It is not necessarily a weekend and not necessary to just be 2 days per week.
Sure thing is: never more than 25 hours per week, usually not more than 20. And all work on agreement with you :-)
If there is no mucking of stables then it will be caring for fences, cutting the weed, bushes and trees, caring for garden and vegetables or constructing stuff. This also depends on your abilities :-)
Also some help in the house and garden is possible: cook occasionally is really welcome as we are curious for everything you can do. But also clean the dishes, hoover sometime and help cleaning rooms you share with us. And in the garden we see to have flowers, plants and also grow vegetables like pumpkin, tomatoes (20 different old sorts), beans, zuccini, cucumbers ... and lot of fruits.
If we prepare an event like open-air-cinema or a sport competition or a meeting, a boardgame-event or cultural activities... - then help is appreciated as well.
But always: it depends on what you want and can do - in some times we have more options, in some time less.
And if you like you can help us in the charity work we do for caucasia or in the region. This is arranging stuff, building things, social media and website as well as publishing journals, calendars and more.

English and Russian we could do :-)Accommodation
Our house is way too big for only two people. So we usually offer space for workaways. We have on big room for a couple or 2 workaways and one room for a single workaway. This is on the 1st floor. On this floor we also have a bathroom for the workaways and a kitchen which we usually use togehter for breakfast or dinner.
We also may have additional/other options for special occasions or situations, as we also have a holiday rental appartment and a tiny additional guest room. So there is usually space for a lot of guests - and we like that.
AND if someone wants we also have a lot of space outside to stay in tents or other accomodation. What else ...
There is a lot to see around here. We can do trips on weekends with you, or you can do that on your own - either by bus or also use one of our cars if you have a license and it is disposable. There is the bavarian forest national park with a lot of special interest places to see and hike/climb, the city of Passau or the sumava forest in chechia (which is close by). We can give surely recommendations and join some time as well as our friends might do as well :-)
In summer a lake is close by and in winter we can even - if there is enough snow - go downhill or cross country skiing.A little more information

Tobias and Karin are both very kind people. They were clear about what was expected with the horses, and we had lots of free time to explore the area. The riding is to die for - we got to ride out in the mountains in… read more
