    Description

Hello! We are Eli, Wim, Niels, Adan and Mali, and we live together in a cozy home in Flanders, Belgium.

Eli and Wim are married, Adan is their cheerful little son, and Mali is our newborn baby. Niels is our cohousing friend and we have been living together for four years now:).

Eli organizes farm activities for people with mental disabilities and also works for a youth movement focused on nature and the environment. She enjoys painting and drawing and is currently working on a children’s book based on the true story of a Syrian refugee.

Wim is a team leader at a nature conservation organization. In his free time, he volunteers as a conservator of a nearby nature reserve. He loves plants and animals and enjoys working with wood and building things.

Niels works at the Flemish Human Rights Institute. Outside of work, he teaches gymnastics and does aerial silks in circus. He loves reading, and we enjoy cozy evenings by the wood stove listening to him read stories aloud.

We live next door to Eli’s family — her parents, brother and sister — and we often have friends visiting, so it's a lively and interesting place :).

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

You can join us in a variety of activities with our family, within our cohousing, and through the organizations we work and volunteer for.

There are plenty of opportunities to learn and get hands-on experience, including growing your own vegetables and fruits, preserving food (making jams, chutneys, syrups, drying fruits, making juices), nature conservation, and vegan cooking.

  • Help

    Help

-Caring for our little children: taking our toddler Adan outside (he loves being outdoors!) and helping with our newborn, giving Eli some time to do other things.

-Helping in the farming project for people with a mental disability: one Saturday every two weeks, a group joins us on the farm to experience farm life. Together we grow organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers, and take part in nice farm activities like shearing sheep, spinning and weaving wool, making jams, chutneys, syrups, drying fruit, and picking apples for juice.

-Household support: helping with everyday chores, cleaning, and cooking.

-Cooking and community events: Eli’s brother Wout is a great vegan chef. In summer, we plan to organize neighborhood meals using the harvest from the farm, and you can help with preparation and cooking.

-Nature and conservation activities: join Wim in local nature conservation projects, enjoying the outdoors while making a positive impact.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We live in a cohousing. All common areas in the house are shared, but you will have a private bedroom for yourself. If you enjoy sleeping outside, there’s also the option to stay in our caravan, where you might spot deer and squirrels passing by.

We have the habit of eating together. Usually one person cooks for everyone, and we take turns.
Our meals are vegetarian, mostly organic and we use lots of fresh vegetables and fruits from our garden.

    What else ...

We live about 3 kilometers from the nearest train station in Bilzen, with easy train connections to destinations all over Belgium. You’re welcome to use one of our bikes to get around 😊.

The area is known for its lovely and accessible cycling routes, and there are plenty of beautiful places to explore within easy biking distance!
