Description
Do you want to live in the suburbs of Adelaide and help me transform my backyard into a organic natural space that benefits people, animals and the environment?
Hi, I'm Mel, a 36 year old woman living in Port Adelaide, only 12kms from Adelaide city centre. I own my home and share with 2 other housemates and my dog, Bailey. I value biodiversity and being outdoors and need some help to make the most of this property I am so lucky to have.
I have started by removing most of the lawns from the house and planting native gardens in order to be waterwise and attract native wildlife back to the suburbs. I am great at one off projects but struggle with ongoing daily work, so I have many failed attempts in the veggie patch, some help, guidance and accountability will go a long way!... I am interested in permaculture and would love someone knowledgeable to come and help this space reach it's potential - starting with growing food.Types of help and learning opportunities

I was born in Australia and am a native English speaker and can happily assist with learning conversational Australian English (I love a chat!!)
I have always enjoyed having housemates from other cultures and languages, previous housemates have come from Ecuador, Colombia, France, Norway, Vietnam, and Italy to name a few. I really enjoy talking about ideas and hearing about peoples lives and experiences.
The house is less than 10 minutes to the beach, 30 minutes to the countryside/bush, and 20 mins to the city centre. I am friendly and social and will happily share my local knowledge and show you around Adelaide.
Besides loving natural places I am a big music fan and try to get out and see local music regularly, the music scene in Adelaide is amazing for such a modest sized city and I would love to share this!Help
If you want to teach a beginner, setup a more ethical, environmental friendly home, and start something from scratch in your own style, this will be perfect for you!
I'd like someone to set up and maintain a veggie patch (structure is already there) along with teaching me about permaculture - what and when to grow, how to keep track , along with ideas for meals with the seasonal produce.
I also want to build a few garden structures like a shaded area in front of a shed, a front fence, garden path etc... so a secondary skillset of general diy construction would be amazing.Languages

I only speak English, but would like to learn Spanish (I know a tiny bit, but forget when I don't use it...)Accommodation
The accommodation is a pleasant furnished bedroom in the house - with a wardrobe, desk and double bed.
As housemates we shop and cook our food individually due to our different schedules and preferences. Providing for yourself would be the expectation, unless part of the workaway duties included includes kitchen tasks like cooking and organisation/systems along permaculture principles. What else ...
Digital nomads welcome, there is good internet at the house and I also work from home.
