    Description

We are a small, land-based project located in the Andean mountains of Colombia, about two hours south of Bogotá, in a temperate cloud forest and protected forest reserve. This is a quiet, rural environment surrounded by rivers, native forest, and open land.

The project is in its early stages and focuses on land stewardship, regenerative living, and the gradual development of a permaculture-inspired eco-project. Day-to-day life is simple and hands-on, with an emphasis on respect for nature, shared responsibility, and conscious living.

At the moment, the project is cared for by a small team of two people, along with some chickens, fish, and a cat. We value cooperation, clear communication, and a calm, grounded rhythm of work and rest. Volunteers who enjoy rural life, nature, and meaningful physical activity tend to feel most at home here.

About the place & local area

The land sits within a forest sanctuary area with access to a clean river, walking trails, and mountain views. The surrounding region offers opportunities for hiking, swimming in natural waters, meditation, yoga, and quiet time in nature. Nearby towns provide basic supplies, while the land itself offers a peaceful retreat away from busy city life.

This is an ideal place for people looking to disconnect from noise, reconnect with the land, and participate in a project that values learning, simplicity, and mutual respect.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Help us promote cultural exchange and learning

Hosting Workawayers is an opportunity for genuine cultural exchange, shared learning, and human connection. Life here is simple, collaborative, and rooted in daily interaction with the land and local rhythms.

We share meals together, work side by side on the project, and spend time talking, reflecting, and exchanging ideas. Evenings often include cooking, storytelling, music, quiet conversation, or simply resting and enjoying the mountain environment.

Workawayers are invited to learn about:

Sustainable land stewardship and early-stage permaculture practices

Rural Colombian life in the Andean cloud forest

Basic gardening, reforestation, and animal care

Plant-based crafts and small-scale natural product creation

Mindfulness, presence, and living in closer relationship with nature

Our goal is to create a respectful, open environment where everyone feels welcome, contributes meaningfully, and leaves with new knowledge, friendships, and a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity.

  • Help

    Help

Workawayers support us with a variety of hands-on, land-based tasks that change depending on the season and current needs of the project. Most tasks are practical, outdoors, and done at a relaxed but consistent pace.

    Typical help may include:

Gardening, planting, weeding, and basic crop care

Reforestation and care of native plants

    Path, waterway, and land maintenance

Feeding and caring for chickens and fish

Light construction, repairs, and simple building projects

    Cleaning and organizing shared spaces

Food preparation and kitchen cleanup as part of communal living

We usually work together and enjoy sharing skills, knowledge, and experiences along the way. No special experience is required, what matters most is a positive attitude, reliability, and respect for people, animals, and the land.

A typical day includes several hours of help, with time left for rest, nature walks, swimming in the river, reading, reflection, or creative activities. We aim for a balanced exchange that allows learning, contribution, and personal time.

This experience is best suited for people who enjoy simple rural living, physical activity, and being part of a small, collaborative environment.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Workawayers stay on a small eco-farm located in the Colombian Andes, in a rural, peaceful, and nature-rich setting. Accommodation is simple and designed for people who feel comfortable with countryside living and shared spaces.

    Guest House Option:
Volunteers may stay in a modest guest house on the land. The house includes shared bedrooms with beds and bedding, access to a shared kitchen, a bathroom, an outdoor toilet, and a shower. Utilities are basic and consistent with rural Colombian conditions. The environment is calm, respectful, and community-oriented.

    Camping Option:
For those who prefer a closer connection to nature, there is space available for camping on the property. We provide a safe area to set up tents. Workawayers who choose the camping option must be comfortable with outdoor living and variable weather conditions common to the Andean region. Access to bathroom facilities and showers is provided.

    Food & Shared Living:
Meals are provided daily and prepared using local, seasonal ingredients. Cooking is a shared activity, and Workawayers are expected to participate in food preparation and kitchen cleanup as part of communal life. Meals are simple, nourishing, and in line with rural Colombian traditions.

This is an eco-farm and homestead environment, not a hotel or resort. We value cooperation, mutual respect, and a balanced rhythm between work, rest, learning, and time in nature.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We invite Workawayers to fully immerse themselves in life on our Andean eco-farm. During free time, you can:

Explore the forest reserve and sacred river flowing through the property.

Hike trails in the surrounding mountains and enjoy birdwatching or meditation in nature.

Participate in art, craft, and skill-sharing sessions with the hosts.

Learn about ancestral medicine, holistic practices, and permaculture principles.

We live simply and respectfully: volunteers share in daily chores, help with land stewardship, gardening, and animal care, and participate in communal cooking and cleanup.

House rules focus on cooperation, mutual respect, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. This is a rural, off-grid homestead, so flexibility, curiosity, and a positive attitude are essential.

Our aim is a balanced exchange of energy, knowledge, and experience—where everyone contributes and grows together.
