    Description

We are an active and loving family of four (soon five), with a dog, living in the countryside near Oslo.

Clare is English, but has lived in Norway for 10 years, and is completing her PhD on Norwegian killer whales.

Per Kristian is Norwegian and works with renewable energy. Eloise is 4 years old and is kind, imaginative and loves books and puzzles.

Katie is 21 months old and the smiliest little baby who loves her food!

Loki is a big golden doodle dog that looks like a teddy bear, and also loves food.

Baby number 3 is expected end of June 2026 <3

We love hiking, skiing, sailing and spending time together. We are needing help with everyday tasks around the house, and can offer an insight into Norwegian family life and more!

Spend time in the lovely city of Oslo nearby, and in the Norwegian nature all around us. Experience life as part of a Norwegian family. Learn some Norwegian. Share traveling stories (Clare was a Workawayer when she was younger, and we have all done lots of traveling, also with the girls!)

  • Help

    Help

Your main jobs will be helping us around the house, e.g:
    - Taking our dog Loki for one or two walks a day (if you have any experience with dog training then that is a big plus! He is perfect 95% of the time but has some annoying behaviours that are getting too much for us (nothing big or aggressive - but stuff like jumping up at people, stealing food, barking at other dogs and bad recall).
    - Preparing dinner (either we send you a recipe or even better if you wish to cook us something new)
    - Doing one big clean of the whole house once a week. This takes about 4 hours and the workawayers we have previously had normally choose a rainy day and do it in one go :) We will make sure to tidy beforehand!
    - General help clearing up after dinner / tidying away toys etc at the end of the day / folding laundry etc
    - Maybe doing a bit of painting / easy DIY work if there is anything that needs to be done
    - Sometimes playing a little with the kids (but this is normally not so much - the reason we wanted to do workaway was so that we could spend more time with the kids ourselves rather than be doing all the other house jobs!)

Generally people that stay with us work much less than the recommended Workaway guidelines of 20-25 hours a week, and we are very flexible with the hours. E.g. if it is beautiful weather for some days no problem at all to take those days off and to condense the work into days with worse weather! The most important for us is that everyone benefits, and you have a great experience and we get some help! :) And that we communicate with each other what we need, and what you need in terms of being able to see and do the things you want.

We generally speak English as a family, but our 4 year old daughter speaks mainly Norwegian (and Per Kristian and her speak just Norwegian to each other). Clare is also fluent in Norwegian and we are happy to help with your Norwegian skills!

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Own bedroom (double or twin beds) and & bathroom in our house. We also have a second living room that doubles as an office in the day, but that you can use in the evening if you wish. We have a large house with a beautiful big garden and veranda area.

We will provide all food for meals, and you can purchase any extra snacks or drinks you may want. You are welcome to enjoy meals together with us or eat at other times. Something we need help with is preparing dinner a few days a week, so it is nice and natural to eat dinner together, if you wish! Clare is vegetarian so we normally eat vegetarian food, or meals that can easily be adjusted to be vegetarian for Clare ,with meat for the others.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

40 minutes by bus into central Oslo with all the sights. Beautiful walking, biking, skiing trails right out of the house. 15 minute walk to a cute little cultural village with craft shops and cafes (Bærums verk). Nearby lake and beach by the sea for swimming. We have a sailboat and often spend weekends on it in southern Norway - you'd be welcome to join if it fits. In the winter we often go cross country and downhill skiing, and ice skating, all of which is walking distance from the house. You are welcome to borrow our car to go on further away day trips if we don't need it :)
