    Description

We are a family of three and are owners of a performance horse property on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, specializing primarily in dressage. We are looking to share our lengthy experience with performance horses and our Australian culture with like-minded horse enthusiast volunteers who have experience with horses to assist us with daily activities on the property including feeding, rugging, groundwork, lunging and riding horses as well as general property maintenance tasks. We will be doing tasks alongside you to share our horsemanship skills and our Australian culture and hope to benefit from the cultural interactions we have with you whilst we share with you the experience of caring for horses and living on the land in Australia.
Previous experience with performance horses, stallions and young horses is preferable. This is a great opportunity to build on your knowledge and horse experience through helping alongside us.
We provide a relaxed supportive family environment with the opportunity to be involved in taking daily care of horses and the option of taking horses to clinics and competitions. Past backpackers have found it to be one of their best and most educational experiences.
We are based in a lovely location on the Mornington Peninsula in the Victorian countryside but also in proximity to the capital city of Victoria, Melbourne, so that you can enjoy exploring Victoria. Our property is approximately 1 hour from Melbourne CBD in a semi rural location and is close to beaches and wineries. On this property of 8 hectares we have 3 houses and we usually have 14 horses. The horse facilities include an all weather dressage arena, a round yard, riding paddock, show jumps, stables, undercover tie up stalls and a tack room.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

As well as spending time with us you will have the opportunity to meet other horse enthusiasts from Australia and travellers from various parts of the world. This provides you with the opportunity to improve both your horse experience as well as building lifelong friendships with us, our family and friends and other volunteers you will meet here. This is a great opportunity for horse enthusiasts to build on their knowledge and horse experience through working with experienced horse owners.
As hosts we hope to learn more about the culture and experiences of our volunteers and to build long term relationships with our volunteers and often with their families as well. In the past we have had previous volunteers return to stay with us a number of times and we have also enjoyed meeting their families who have visited our farm.

We like to host motivated, mature, proactive non-smoking volunteers who have experience with horses to help alongside us and assist us with daily activities on the properties including feeding, rugging, lunging and riding horses as well as assisting with general property maintenance tasks. Previous experience with performance horses, stallions and young horses is an advantage.
We generally have 3 girls helping out at our property and some have stayed with us for long periods of time (from 6 to 20 months) and some have returned to stay with us a number of times. We prefer to host volunteer backpackers who are going to stay a minimum of 2 months or more. We have many excellent reviews from past backpackers who have stayed with us and we are happy to share these with you.
