Description
Status from 31 July 2025: we have had a pause in hosting the last 2 years (last time hosting was spring 2023), but we are now opening our place up again.
Our place is an old fjord farm in the northern part of Denmark - in Thy. The farm dates back to the 15th century and the area is brimming with old history from the Bronze Age and the Viking Age in Denmark. The farm is situated beautifully directly at Skibsted Fjord - where you can see thousands of birds in the season, collect oysters, fish and swim.
We are living 3 generations together on the farm - working and dreaming together. Me and my husband, our 2 kids age 17 and 19 and my parents that are both in their 80thies.
We run the farm as a holiday / retreat center and we also do nature protection with the help of 20 + Hereford Cows … and we have an old cat, 2 younger ones and 3 Labrador dogs. In the summertime there are always guests on the farm - on regular holiday or doing a course or attending a retreat (for an example painting, yoga). In the winter time it is more quiet and I normally teach yoga on the farm.
We are very engaged in protecting and restoring the nature at the farm - and we are currently engaged in a nature restoration project involving old farm land that we give back to nature.
We LOVE our old place that are in our care until the next generations are taking over, the nature, the buildings, the animals, the fruits, the garden, the water - and we ALWAYS have a lot of projects going on - and always to little time to do them all :). The farm is old and there is a lot of maintenance work on the houses - painting, woodwork, tidying up and smaller construction work. The garden (the normal garden and the vegetable garden and a small permaculture garden) .
Who are we?
My husbond works as a highschool teacher - and teaches philosophy and mathematics. I mainly work on the farm, and I also run a small yoga business, where I teach a few classes and facilitates workshops and retreats here at the farm. I'm also chairman of the board of Thy Nationalpark. My parents are now retired from their jobs as journalist and nurse - and they are both very active and participates in a lot of the tasks on the farm. Sonja, original shoemaker from Schwitzerland, started here as a workawayer, and is now working and living here - helping us with the cleaning and is the master of our kitchen garden. Lars is working here in a protected job helping with the garden and the farm.
We are very big on food. We bake most of our bread, and we cook wholesome fresh food every day. I love to use wild nature and our own farm products in the cooking.
We love music - My husband has a huge record collection and he's a hi fi 'nerd' - building loud speakers etc. I play the Gong, the piano and the church organ. The kids sing, play the bratch and piano. We also enjoy newspapers, books and quality film and tv-series.

You will experience how life is at an Scandinavian lowkey agriturismo farm that opens up to a lot of different people - and where the passion is about nature protection, a life style closer to nature, yoga, activities in nature such as gathering foods and tending to our old buildings. And we are very interested in learning new things and methods from you.
You will also experience a active working community - where everybody are motivated to make the impossible possible.
Sometimes we will do tasks side-by-side if there is a project that requires it. Other times we will instruct you and you will continue on your own or together with another person. If you have a preference please let us know.
When I have yoga events you are welcome to participate for free. If you are interested in learning more about how to run your own place, do retreats etc. this could also be a interesting place for you.
Help
There are MANY different possibilities for you to help with here, depending on your skills and interests! Here are some of the main things where we could use an extra hand :). Main need right now 29th of July is help with nature protection and gardening. Biodiversity crisis = wild seeds for the future needs picking now.
1. NATURE PROTECTION. We urgently need helpers who are interested in nature protection:
- To gather wild seeds in the area. It is very nice and meditative tasks that creates a wonderful connection to nature.
- Dig holes to plant them in
- Move stones (to create microhabitats)
- And a bit later - help to plant scrubs and trees.
NB! In week 34-35-36 we are open to more people visiting to participate in a concentrated effort and again in week 40-41. Idea is to create a bit of community - and collect as many wild seeds as possible together.
2) GARDENING. We have a very big garden, so if you like to help with gardening, it would great with a helping hand. We have both a conventional garden with flowers etc. - and an large vegetable garden and a work-in-progress permaculture garden ... and a bit of old garden that we are trying to turn into a food producing garden.
So if you have garden skills/interest - don't hesitate.
2. MAINTENANCE.
a) We always need help with light painting etc.
b) I also would appreciate some help with cleaning up and prepare the building for other projects - and it would be great with a helping hand.
4. ART. If you are an artist we welcome you are helping with nature, nature connection and with to contribute with workshops or original artwork for our place. 5 kilometers from the farm the Danish national gallery is opening a branch the 29th of August - so quite a lot of interesting art events are taking place this year.
6. DAILY FARM. We can always need extra help with the daily chores on our farm.
Workawayers will not be helping towards any paying guests or their spaces or with any produce sold from our place.

Accommodation
There are several opportunities depending of the amount of people you are and the season:
You will can stay in the yoga house. The house is 500 meters from the farm. Sonja lives here, and when there are yoga-courses or tourists, you will have to pay attention to this / and sometime move to another part of the farm while the course is on.
If you are the outdoor type - you are welcome to camp while you are here. We have tents etc. that you can use / or you can bring your own.
FOOD
You fix your own food / alone or with other workawayers. You can use the products from the garden, and we will pay for other ingredients you might need. From time to time we all eat lunch together depending on the time of year and on what everybody is doing. When we eat together - we normally take turns in preparing lunch for each other.
We will provide bed linen and towels. We expect that you will clean your own room while you are staying with us - and that you clean and tidy up before you leave us :).

What else ...
The train station is only 3 km away from the farm - with direct connections to the near by citys. There are direct trains to Copenhagen every day (4,5 hours by train).
The nearest airport is Midtjyllands Airport / Aalborg Airport / Billund Airport.
The local bus runs by the farm (but not so often).
We have bikes on the farm that you can borrow while you are here.
We will be happy to pick you up at the train station when you arrive. If we have the time we can also arrange for you to be picked up in the Airports :).
While you are here there are a lot of nice nature events and cultural events that you can participate in around the area.
If you like surfing the place is very close to the 30 super surf spots called Cold Hawaii. And the fjord is great for windsurfing.
If you like nature - you are living right in it - and we are very close to the National Park in Thy.
And you can also just hang out here on the farm - enjoy swimming, walking, reading, doing yoga etc. :)
