    Description

We are a small registered UK charity based in Peterborough, currently rebuilding and renewing our community work after changes in funding and resources.

For many years, we offered free well-being sessions, therapy, yoga, English classes, creative workshops, sewing classes and multicultural community events. These activities helped local people reduce isolation, build confidence, develop practical skills and improve their overall well-being.

Our work has always been inclusive and open to the wider community, not only to Latvians. We are proud of our Latvian roots, but our mission is to bring people from different backgrounds together, support mental health and well-being, and create a stronger sense of belonging.

Our voluntary work has been recognised through a nomination for The King’s Award for Voluntary Service, and we were honoured to receive a Commended recognition for our contribution to the community.

We are now looking for creative, kind and motivated volunteers to help us develop the next stage of our charity work, including new ideas, online activities, social media content, community projects and practical support.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

Travellers will have the opportunity to experience community life in Peterborough and learn how a small UK charity works from the inside.

They will gain insight into multicultural community work, migrant experiences, women’s well-being, digital inclusion, charity communication and the challenges of rebuilding community activities after changes in funding.

They may also learn about Latvian culture and heritage, while meeting people from different backgrounds through our community connections, multicultural events, radio work, women’s circles and local partnerships.

This exchange can help travellers develop practical skills in social impact, storytelling, research, digital communication, project planning and community engagement.

Most importantly, they will have the chance to contribute ideas that matter, be part of meaningful conversations and understand how small community organisations support people, reduce isolation and create a stronger sense of belonging.

    Help

We are looking for kind, responsible and creative travellers who would like to support our charity during a new stage of renewal and development.

At the moment, our work is becoming more focused on digital communication, community storytelling, research, radio, women’s circles and new project ideas. We do not currently run many regular face-to-face activities, but we remain actively connected with other communities and continue to take part in multicultural events, meetings and local conversations.

This means that volunteers will not be isolated. They will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful charity work, meet people from different backgrounds, learn about community life in Peterborough and bring fresh ideas to help us shape the next chapter of our organisation.

    Help may include:

creating ideas for new community well-being projects
helping with social media content and online communication
creating short videos, photos or digital materials
supporting website updates and digital content
helping with digital storytelling about our charity’s work and community impact
researching migrant well-being needs and barriers to participation
researching fundraising opportunities, community grants and partnerships
helping with simple administration and project planning
sharing fresh ideas on how we can reach and support more people

This opportunity would suit someone interested in community development, migrant well-being, women’s empowerment, digital inclusion, storytelling, social impact or charity development. We value kindness, initiative, reliability and a respectful attitude.

    Accommodation

You will be staying in the home of Iveta, the CEO of the charity. Iveta lives with her 15-year-old son, and you will have your own private room, a shared bathroom and access to the kitchen.

You are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your own meals. When I cook, I am happy to share the food I prepare, and breakfast or dinner can sometimes be enjoyed together in a warm, traditional Latvian spirit. We are also happy to share food culture and recipes.

Please note that we are not able to provide special diets such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free or other specific dietary requirements. We can only share the food that we normally prepare and eat at home. If you have specific food needs or preferences, you will be responsible for buying and preparing those items yourself.

Lunch is usually on your own, but we can recommend local places, shops and affordable options in Peterborough.

There are many activities taking place in Peterborough that you could enjoy - from mini golf to kundalini yoga classes! We have a beautiful city centre with lovely architecture and we're not very far from Cambridge - less than an hour away via public transport and a historic medieval Stamford (which was the filming ground for Pride and Prejudice) is only 30min away. London is close too! 1h on a train and you can be there already.
