    Description

Hello! I am Tina !!!! Arthur and I created this Sanctuary so we could live a healthier and more Sustainable lifestyle. I call myself a treehugger environmentalist, that says it all about me .. Arthur is a retired Mechanical Engineer and is very gifted after building his own plane and now this incredible off grid Strawbale home… Those that have come to stay at our Eco Sanctuary have called it a 'place of healing'. We found paradise in Port Fairy 10 years ago and stumbled upon this 6-acre property , NWES is chemical free and we use organic and Permaculture principles . The tranquil surrounds of Port Fairy are filled with opportunities and here is where our visions fortified. Within 5 years, an eco-friendly, fully self-sustaining straw bale home and a modest garden was built. This proud creation continues to prosper with community empowerment and involvement with the home and gardens open to visitors, community members and travellers far and wide. We do invite people to share our vision and lifestyle by offering tours in spring/ Summer….

In 2018, our continuing and conscious efforts in Environment Sustainability won us an award recognised in the Moyne Shire council region. When you come to stay and work with us you will have the opportunity to better understand Eco Living, along with how each of us can become 'Self Sufficient' now and in the future. Everything bought, used and consumed on our land and in our home is chemical free and organic. It is natural living at its best!

We are currently welcoming Workaway travellers from end of August till end of November as there are currently projects that you can help with to help us prepare for the Spring season.
The Sanctuary is a not for profit Learning Hub,where people learn how to Restore Self Sufficiency to apply in their daily lives….

    Help

The help we require is House Maintenance which includes tasks such as painting/staining (using natural products) of indoor and outdoor windows, decluttering and cleaning out of the shed, improving and upgrading our current compost bins. These projects can be done with guidance but we also appreciate your ideas and initiatives based on your knowledge and experiences.

We also have Gardening Work which includes; assistance with installing watering system for general garden and our little hot house, creating new gardens and planting veggies appropriate for the upcoming seasons, weeding, composting and mulching and maintain the orchard. Other ad-hoc duties may come up however it doesn't require you to have prior experience.

The New Projects is an exciting one we have created for our WorkAwayers. The community garden will be open again in Spring and we are wanting someone to help with building an outdoor veggie stand (including honesty box) and veggie garden fence. You will have some guidance but we do appreciate someone with the skills to take full initiative.

A campervan is situated on the property with a lovely outlook. The van is self contained with a double bed (mattress, pillows and bedding included), gas stove, fully equipped kitchen, fridge and freezer, ensuite and day bed for snoozing and reading time on a rainy day. You will wake up to views of the paddock where the resident guinea fowls, chickens, goats and alpacas play each day. You are most welcome to use the guest shower in the home and also have access to the laundry and kitchen in our home whenever you need.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your spare time and days off, we recommend exploring Port Fairy town and Warrnambool City. There are lovely local beaches, rivers, estuaries, for the outdoors experiences otherwise you can visit the local art galleries, main city of Warrnambool where the main shopping precinct is. There is a variety of options for cafes and restaurants. The geothermal spas are also a great treat if you like natural heated mineral bathing.

    - Port Fairy Town is approx 5 kms away
    - Warrnambool City is approx 20 km away
    - Grampians National Park is 60 km away

Our little favorite spots that can be visited easily during your stay are Tower Hill Reserve for geological interest in the volcanic activity that has shaped the landscape and Griffith Island which offers an easy stroll at low tide. These are just some local favourites!
