    Description

    Hi!

We have been hosting workaways since Sept 2023 and have come to rely on this incredible community. We hope to always have an workawayer in our home.

Our calendar is up to date! Please message only for green periods, as we’re already hosting otherwise.

We are a family of 5 (3 kids, born in 2018, 2020, 2023) living in a house in the Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood (central) in Vancouver, BC.

We love our city and enjoy playing outside in the mountains, ocean and in the parks and streets around our house. Travis and I (Jennifer) both work outside the house (although I will be on maternity leave and only doing part time work until September 2024). We speak English and Jen is learning French (intermediate). Our hobbies include hiking, biking, paddleboarding, mountain biking and skiing. We love good food but often only have time to whip up something simple. We are really interested in getting to know new people and new cultures.

Work-awayers will benefit from a warm and welcoming family. We'd be happy to show you around Vancouver and tell you our favourite beaches, galleries/museums, walks, restaurants etc. We have a beautiful (but small) home that is very walkable, bikeable and close to public transit. We are willing to help with English practice. You would be welcome to join us on any weekends away that we take (often take weekend trips to Whistler or other spots in the area). You would be welcome to participate in our family meals at breakfast and dinner time. We can introduce you to others in Vancouver as well.

Jen is a family doctor and Travis is an engineer. We are both passionate about urban planning, environmentalism, social justice. We are happy to learn from others about these subjects in other parts of the world and also share our perspectives in conversations.

Our children are bright and fun-loving and can teach you how to be in the present moment and teach you about wonder.

    Help

We are mostly looking for help with childcare. For example, while I am on part-time maternity leave, this would likely include looking after our infant (while I am in the house working). Nolan our youngest needs diaper changing, feeding, putting down for a nap, playing/singing/reading/going to the park etc. Our oldest two are in daycare/school and help occasionally with drop offs and pick ups. Meal prep would also be a big help, as well as general house tidying.

Jen is learning French so if you are willing to practice with her this would be great :)

As well, we often have odd jobs around the house and a small garden that we are trying to look after

We have a 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home located in central Vancouver (Mt. Pleasant neighbourhood). Our three kids (2018, 2020, 2023) share a bedroom. You would have your own private bedroom (queen bed) with dresser and closet space. You would have a private bathroom. There is a shared kitchen, playroom. There is a living room which contains a TV and a desk (mostly for adults). If you are here during warmer weather months we have a lovely deck and side yard with hammock for downtime. Pictures of our house are in the profile - the bedroom and bathroom shown would be the ones you would be using and the common spaces are also shown.

Our house is very walkable to cafes, grocery stores, restaurants, parks, shopping and the ocean. As well, bikeable to almost anywhere in Vancouver on excellent bike infrastructure. As well, we live approximately 5 minute walk from the SkyTrain (our rapid transit) which can bring you to various parts of the city and surrounding area.

We may have a bike that you are able to borrow and also a membership to our public bike system that you can use.
