Description
Hey, my name is Inês, I am 34 years old, and I have been renovating my family house, for the past 3 years with my friend Simone, after 30 years of being abandoned. Now it has a new life by being a learning and regeneration centre, and a rural coliving space since October 2025.
If you like the experience of being part of a community in a rural area of Portugal, join us!
We are 2 full-time members living at the Quinta: Simone and I, and now we have our most recent part-time member: Ana!
Volunteers will be welcomed as new team members who will be co-creating with us. We expect responsibility, proactivity while learning, sharing and, of course, having fun (:

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
Quinta da Caravalheira has become a Rural Coliving focused on nature, sustainable living and regeneration since October 2025. This means we are welcoming colivers from around the world (more during spring and summer, fewer during autumn and winter).
Besides that, we host retreats and workshops conducted by our team members and partners who love the space and combine their area of expertise with the purpose of Carvalheira. We have hosted workshops about cooking, picking and selection of forest mushrooms, yoga, meditation, forest bathing, permaculture, olive picking, volunteering activities related to the house's renovations, Christmas markets, exchange markets, and so much more. Creativity has no limit!
Most of the year, we have thematic weekends, where we gather friends, family, previous volunteers and any curious people who are welcomed to join us, learn, contribute and enjoy!
We welcome any knowledge that you might be passionate about and is useful and nice to share with us, our friends and any coliver who passes by. Gardening/farming, painting, decorating, arts, sustainable products, DIY...you name it!
In the surroundings, there are hiking paths, climbing walls (outdoors and indoors), and amazing river beaches. You can visit the nearest town, Soure (15 minutes by car) and the nearest cities, Pombal (25 minutes by car) or Coimbra (35 minutes by car).
Projects involving children

Help
This is a community environment with amazing neighbours and a welcoming team. We host workshops while growing our vegetable garden in accordance with permaculture principles.
We have been working on the house renovation for 3 years, and it's now a Learning and Regeneration centre.
Therefore, we need volunteers to take care of the house and the animals, and to plant more in our vegetable garden 😊
Workawayers will not be asked to help out in areas with paying guests.
We meet every day at 9 am for a team check-in where we divide tasks and share our personal needs.
Then usually we work until 12h/13h, we have a 1h30 lunch break, and we continue in the afternoon for the amount of hours left for the day.
The activities can be varied: planting, weeding, feeding the animals, cleaning the garden and patio, painting walls, managing wood stock, etc.
Ps: We accept only vegetarian food. No smoking/drugs allowed within our space.

Accommodation
Your main accommodation will be in a dorm, which you will share with other colivers, guests or volunteers when necessary. So this means there might be periods where you will enjoy a room just for yourself too (:
Don't worry about bed linen and blankets, we provide that for you! In the cold months (November to April), we recommend bringing a sleeping bag, just in case you are a very cold person.
Your stay includes 3 vegetarian meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). As well as free access to the internet, laundry (once a week), tours, events, bikes, yoga classes and any equipment in the house (including the kitchen).
We also provide free rides to and from the Quinta. During your stay, we combine rides (when the car is available) and use local buses or taxis for any additional commutes.
For any questions, just contact us. We would love to know more about you (:
