    Description

Hi. My name is Tiziana, l am Italian and my husband is Canadian/Irish. We live in a beautiful little town called Citta di Castello in the region of Umbria, right in the very heart of Italy. My husband and l also have five beautiful hectares of hillside below the ancient hilltop village of Montone. The place was practically abandoned when we found it, we spent the past five years bringing back our piece of paradise to it's deserved glory. When we bought this place, it was an old abandoned vineyard, a few olive trees and an orchard in desperate need of some TLC.

Having spent two lockdowns clearing the overgrown vineyard, we hired an expert in viticulture to guide us through the process of replanting all the vines, to rejuvenate the vineyard. We had the soil tested and the result was that our land contained exactly the right prerequisites for growing pinot noir ,the most famous grapes for making champagne! We are so excited, because we will be the first in our area to produce sparkling wine- although that is still three years in the future. Spring 2022 we have planted 1090 little vines from a French nursery. At the moment all we really need to do is keep the young delicate vines watered and reasonably weed-free.

We also have a pretty decent area of woodland which every Autumn we cut trees down for fire wood. Next year we would like to cultivate a new vegetable garden in a specific area, so this Autumn we will build raised beds and prepare the soil for next spring. Fancy helping us?

If you would to have an experience here in central of Italy your help would be much appreciated, the land needs constant maintenance, my husband and myself are not be able to do everything, specially because we have other jobs besides here (eg completing the restoration of our home in Citta di Castello). We need help doing gardening, stacking firewood, olive picking, pruning, weeding etc.-general outdoor work really. Spring and Autumn are most busy season for us at the moment and frankly here in mid summer it is mostly too hot to get much work done. Please come and stay with us, we will be happy to meet new people all over the world!

Our farm is growing day by day, we have also permission to build a barn and a wood cabin, so carpentry and building skills would come in very handy.
If you like the idea of giving us 4 hours help a day, we will provide decent camping facilities, there is there a well equipped field kitchen, pure running water, outside but peaceful and private toilet, outside shower and electricity from our photovoltaic panel system,we will provide food, wine (but you will need to prepare all your own meals) and a bicycle to get you to Montone and the nearby local town Umbertide.

Citta' di Castello is a beautiful renaissance city. You can use our bikes, if you like to visit around Town. We are both fluent in English and Italian and some rusty French! The area are well connected from public transport such as train and buses, Rome is two hours away from us as well as Florence.

The work would be equally suited to a single person who's comfortable working alone or a couple- whatever suits you. We will do all in our power to make you happy! Years ago at our old property San Lorenzo Bibbiana we hosted many, many Helpxers for years with very good reviews. We are decent, well educated, well travelled hosts, LGBGT+ friendly, not some sketchy weirdos looking for free slave labour!
