We are a collective of dedicated and hardworking people, who aim to be a living example for sustainable living. Our land has 3 hectares. After 6 years of passionate work, we have transformed this land into productive farm, with beautiful permaculture and medicinal gardens, self-built wooden houses, aquaponics greenhouse, tree nurseries, among other projects.
We have various projects and courses that we are organising to spread knowledge and connect people and nature. At the same time, we have the animals and the food production at the farm which need our daily care. We have 1 horse, 2 pigs, 1 dogs, 2 cats, 5 sheep and dozen of chickens and ducks.
Among some of our activities are mushroom production, seed collection, planting trees, restoration of old tools and furniture, rare and various vegetables in the garden, natural&green building, cheese&bread&craftbeer making, eco-tourism, cultural events and "hands-on" DIY workshops, and our local farm shop where we sell handicrafts and own®ional products when we don't go to the market.
We look forward to continuing all the activities and courses that work along with our concept of sustainability. We want to welcome and involve people who share the same vision and bring fresh new ideas to make this place even more wonderful :)
Help with Eco project
We believe the Ecovillage is one of the most dynamic eco-projects in Portugal.
We receive many people per day/week/month (volunteers, collaborators, teachers, residents, guests) all from different countries and also within Portugal. You will share with many people different knowledge & experiences and can improve languages.
We have many books here for you to read. Cooking together with people from different cultures also often creates interesting fusions. Most of us are artistically creative, so you can really let your creativity flow and let yourself be inspired by the beauty of nature that surrounds this place.
Since 2012 we have received hundreds of volunteers to maintain the everyday/general tasks on the farm.
From now on, volunteering at the Ecovillage is integrated into the Rural Incubation program with the purpose of empowering young adults to create a sustainable and self-supporting rural experience. With this program we promote an immersion in the universe of action of the Dolmen Association based on a strong responsibility of the individual with a view to a full and rapid integration in the collective.
The volunteer & host together must choose one area of intervention in the project,

In autumn/winter/cold/rain seasons, you will sleep in a shared dormitory. We have one big room in the main house for 6 persons, and we are currently restoring another house for 4 volunteers to share.
In summer, it is preferable that you stay camping because of the weather. Please let us know whether you can bring your own tent. If not, we can offer tent, or provide shared dormitory.
You can bring your own sleeping bag. But if you prefer, we can also offer bedding at all times of the year.
Food: All included. Most of the time in the main farmhouse and 3-4 dinners per week in the farm restaurant that we operate in the village.
We follow an open diet (we are not vegetarian or vegan) with ingredients grown organically in the farm + grocery food (not always organic). The meals (from preparation to cleaning of the kitchen afterwards are made by rotative teams with all collaborators). The basic food ingredients are given by the farm.
There is bus transport from Janas to Sintra (UNESCO village) or other places and beaches along the seaside. In Sintra you can take the train to Lisbon (35km away from Janas). With so many people passing by, the probability to have a ride for Sintra/Lisbon or local beaches is pretty high. We also have simple bikes to be used (and many others to be restored if you are skilled in that and can help to improve that service).
There are many beautiful places to see around the area (mountains, ocean and cultural places). The closest beach is 3,5km away/30 min walking/10 min jogging.
We organise pizza nights and jazz concerts nights in our farm restaurant every week and many other cultural activities upcoming. In Janas village there are 3 nice shops (with organic food), 2 bakeries, 3 restaurants and a local sport club (with football and tennis court). In the seaside many surf schools with material to rent or classes to take all year along.
