Joni and her family are awesome! My partner and I stayed with Joni and her family for a week and had a fabulous time talking about soil and small scale farming, making lotion from her plants, doing yoga, painting her guest room (with the special accent wall for the accent wall ;) ) and of course playing with Mittens. You, your family and your farm are AMAZING!!!! Arriving a month before the 2020 pandemic, you sheltered my girlfriend and I from the oncoming storm. We spent 8 months living in a tiny home out the back of your property that you let us BUILD... What a crazy fun journey this year has been.

This was the best crash course in organic farming that anyone could possibly receive, all whilst living in a fun home right in the centre of Vancouver City.
Thanks for letting us eat our bodyweight in fresh produce EVERY SINGLE day. Thanks for letting us build a home in your home. Thanks for being so damn chilled about everything. Thanks for the hot tub sessions on the farm and thanks for the guitar jams!!!
For anyone looking to stay here, I seriously could not recommend a better workaway. I'm back in Australia now but I will be back in Vancouver in the future and I will be back to see you, your family, your eclectic group of friends and of course Jebediah and the rest of the chickens.

I was very grateful Joni took me on last minute. I only got to stay 2.5 weeks but wish I could have stayed longer! I got a decent size bedroom with murphy bed, fireplace (it was Summer though) and Mittens the fat cat coming in and out my window! My 1st day I got to see the CSA market at the house where clients pick up their vege boxes. I did
… read more weeding, picked beans and salad mix, planted seeds and seedlings, watered, etc. It's amazing being able to eat fresh fruit and veges straight from the farm or the backyard. I was able to borrow a bicycle with lock and had plenty of time for exploring, the train station is close too. 1 of the WWOOFers did a carpentry lesson for me and another farm worker, it was good learning new skills. Joni also invited me into her yoga class and a meditation session, both enjoyable firsts for me! It was awesome meeting Joni's family, friends & farm workers, I got to be part of a lunch party at the farm featuring guitar, singing, hula hooping, dinner in the backyard by a fire, some delicious family dinners, lunches at the farm, a BBQ with the WWOOFers at the lake, a walk around the lake, etc! The house is a very short walk from Trout Lake where you can swim, there are random groups of musicians or even events with performances sometimes. We spent 3 weeks at Joni's house. It was our first experience in WorkAway and it has set the bar very high.

We were in there during november, so too late for the farms duty, but we took care of the house. We spruced the stairs up, we've painted the futur shiastsu's room, sewing the curtains and several others smalls works.. It was great to be involved in the house because it was important for us to have something to do.
During our stay we've met lot of family's friends, all very kinds and friendly, we felt particulary integrated.
The house is unique, spirited and fits perfectly with the family's temperament. Our bedroom was huge, comfy and even more when Mittens (the best cat in the world) was coming to cuddle.
We could say a lot more but to conclude I could tell it was a really really great experience and most of all a nice meeting. Thank you a lot again ! We expect to see you in France one day !

… read more her husband are also super nice and always made you feel like part of the family somehow. her (slightly fat) cat is super cute, likes to eat and cuddle a lot, i will definitely miss that cat! working on the farm was a lot of fun, too, harvesting vegetables has an oddly satisfying nature. only stressful on box day, but we could always manage! she would always take us to her yoga lessons (goat yoga was honestly one of the best experiences in my life so far, even though it was more petting the goats than doing any yoga for me, but still). we went to abundance farm one weekend, maybe she‘ll take you there, too. very friendly, tolerant people there, it was a great experience. joni did a lot of things to make my stay interesting. on your days off you can get downtown within like 20 minutes by skytrain, so the location is really nice, too. overall, if you’re looking for a host in vancouver, this is the place you wanna be at! i would always come back to her and i consider myself lucky that i had the opportunity to meet this amazing woman!You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

What I can say about the Character: " JONI ". This woman is just the most open-minded and happiness women I have ever seen in my life. If you have lost the smile, Joni will give it to you. She is curious and tolerant about you, she is talkative and you can speak about every topic with her. She could also allow you to discover Yoga, massage, dance and so much more Her husband is also a wonderful character. He is at the same time so simple and so smart. Full of resources he is a very interesting guy. I had twenty when I spend time in this house, so I also enjoyed my time with their children. Bodi and Eli were really respectful, sharing people and funny guys !!!!
This workaway is perfect for you, the spot is the best, near the downtown of Vancouver. From the house only 8 minutes to the commercial station by walk to take the Skytrain and go to downtown. The work with Joni is very cool and interesting, you spend a lot of time with her, you can speak a lot during the journey, during the ride from the house to the farm and also meet all of the teammates of Joni.
