Description
Hello! My name is Aide. I am a 27 year old linguist, florist and caretaker, based in the beautiful Ghent, Belgium. I am half Albanian and half Dutch. I grew up in The Netherlands, but I visit my family and the mountains in Kosovo often. I have seen all of the balkans, and the people there have taught me so much. I am eager to also discover more of Europe. While traveling, I love committing my time to my passions. Amongst them are writing, crochet, drawing, painting, practicing pilates, cooking, spending time with animals, foraging for flowers, hiking, visiting markets, swimming, drinking tea, gardening and music.

I am currently living in my favorite city, Ghent. After my linguistic studies I worked office jobs. The fieldwork was very enjoyable to me, but I couldn't get used to the office culture. I found myself back in the flower shop and other practical work spaces, where I enjoy my time the best. I am currently working as a caretaker in people's homes, ranging from young mothers with babies until elderly people.

I love working with and being surrounded by nature and people. After multiple Workaway experiences in 2024 and 2025, I want to dedicate my time to experience more of what this platform has to offer. I know I can be of great help to a lot of people and luckily, I enjoy helping like nothing else. I am so excited!

- I have a lot of experience with children; growing up with a big family, I have been raising nieces and nephews while growing up. Also professionally I have worked with (language impaired) kids, as a linguist, a babysitter, and caretaker at home. I mostly naturally find my way with children and I love spending time with them.
- I know about plants and flowers.
- Because of my studies, I have plenty of knowledge about language. For example, how a language is learned. Because of my fascination for languages, I have also always been invested in learning them. I now speak 6 languages.
- I can express myself in many artforms and have a good sense of colour, style, and cleanness.
- I am good at drawing and painting and I can teach you (or your children) too!
- Same goes for crochet! I have been doing crochet handwork since I was a kid and I have taught many of my friends.
- I enjoy working indoors as well as outdoors and cleaning gives me a sense of fulfillment. It is hard for me to concentrate in messy spaces, so I strive to prevent that from happening.
- Since my interests range very wide, I am usually very quick and forward when it comes to learning new things.
- I can cook traditional Albanian and Dutch meals.

Aide stayed one week at my place . It was nice we could talk in our native language. Aida adapted easily and helped me a lot with cleaning jobs to finish all the building work. Every morning and evening we walked with my elder dogs. and she made nice dishes when I had to leave the house. I was happy to have her here. We had nice talks and laughs… read more

My stay with Delphine was amazing and has taught me a lot. I got to be a small part of her family and it made me feel so warm. Most of the work I did was outside in the big, wild garden where there is always enough to do. We made and ate almost all meals together which was always a pleasure. I got to know her sons which was truly a pleasure,… read more because I gained three brothers. They are the sweetest most patient boys and we had a lot of fun together.

Delphine also took me to other places sometimes, so I could explore the surroundings and meet her friends. She taught me about ingredients I had never before seen in my life and let me use them for the cooking/baking. I felt very free in her home and the trust and space that she gave to me made it possible for me to feel right at home. She made sure the hours I worked were fair and comfortable which I really appreciated. There was always time for me to work on my remote job as well, with flexible hours that we always figured out together. And: my French improved a lot during the weeks that passed, because Delphine and the boys helped me all the time.

And the food! It was incredible. I got to try new French dishes, together with amazing wines. I ate a lot of fruit during my stay here because of the fruit trees and Delphine’s weekly shopping at the market. Delphine is very creative when it comes to food; she puts her time and energy in thinking of recipes and baking the best desserts.

I still can’t believe my luck that I ended up in Monteux with this beautiful family. I can’t wait to return again, share food together, and of course, watch Merlin and Harry Potter together :)

Mon séjour chez Delphine a été formidable et m'a beaucoup appris. Je devais être une petite partie de sa famille et ça me faisait tellement chaud dans ma coeur. La plupart du travail que je faisais c’etait dehors, dans le grand jardin sauvage où il y a toujours assez à faire. On a préparé et mangé presque tous les repas ensemble, ce qui était toujours un plaisir. J'ai fait la connaissance de ses fils, ce qui a aussi été un grand plaisir, parce que j'ai gagné trois frères. Ce sont les garçons très gentils, les plus patients et nous nous sommes beaucoup amusés ensemble.

Delphine m'emmenait aussi parfois a d'autres endroits pour que je puisse découvrir les environs et rencontrer ses amis. Elle m'a appris des ingrédients que je n'avais jamais vu de ma vie et m'a laissé les utiliser pour la cuisine. Je me sentais très libre chez elle et la confiance et l'espace qu'elle m'a donné m'ont permis de me sentir comme chez moi immédiatement. Elle a assurée que mes horaires de travail étaient équitables et confortables, ce que j'ai vraiment apprécié. J'avais toujours le temps pour travailler à distance, avec des horaires flexibles que on a toujours discuté ensemble. Et: mon français s'est beaucoup amélioré pendant des semaines qui ont passé, parce que Delphine et les garçons m'aidaient tout le temps.

Et la nourriture! C'était incroyable. J'ai pu essayer de nouveaux plats français, accompagnés de vins incroyables. J'ai mangé beaucoup de fruits pendant mon séjour ici à cause des arbres fruitiers et des courses au marché. Delphine est très créative avec la nourriture; elle consacre son temps et son énergie à réfléchir à des recettes et à préparer les meilleurs desserts.

Je peux pas encore croire ma chance d’avoir été à Monteux avec cette belle famille. J'ai hâte de revenir, de partager de la nourriture et bien sûr de regarder Merlin et Harry Potter ensemble :)

Aide est une personne d'une grande amabilité, elle rayonne de conscience et d'enthousiasme.
Toujours prête à aider dans le jardin et la maison, Aide a ramassé des noix et des branches mortes pour le feu en hiver, elle a fait des confitures de prunes, nettoyer les tomettes en terre cuite et participer à la préparation des repas en famille.

My stay with Mikel and Irena was wonderful, and so memorable. They made me feel at home right away and took care of me and the other Workawayers. Both of them and all the people around them have warm Albanian hearts, which is why I miss them.
