  • Description

    Description

I am Ricardo, the owner and host of the house, which is located on one hectare in the heart of the Maya Jungle. We have 2 cenotes that require constant maintenance, including removing leaves and trimming trees and other vegetation to prevent water contamination. Additionally, we uphold the principles of sustainability.

Ruta de los Cenotes, Quintana Roo, Mexico is a scenic eco-route that stretches from Puerto Morelos toward the heart of the Yucatán jungle, offering a unique blend of nature, adventure, and Mayan heritage.
Lined with lush tropical forest, the route is famous for its crystal-clear cenotes—natural freshwater sinkholes formed over thousands of years—where visitors can swim, snorkel, dive, or simply relax in a serene setting.

We will provide ingredients and a basic pantry so that the Workawayers can cook their own meals.
The beaches are close by but not within walking distance; you can get to Puerto Morelos port by car in about 15 minutes.
The Workaway will learn how to kayak in a Mayan canoe, dance salsa, and get to know the different types of cenotes.
I will introduce them to the local community so they can interact and learn about the culture, habits, and rituals of the Mayan culture.

Yoga project: The volunteers are responsible for leading safe, engaging, and effective yoga classes for individuals or groups of varying skill levels. The instructor promotes physical well-being, mindfulness, and proper alignment while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
    Qualifications:
    * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    * Proven experience teaching group yoga classes
    * Strong knowledge of anatomy, alignment, and injury prevention
*Commitment of a minimum of 10 working days
Do you have a valid yoga teaching certification? (Yes/No)

Garden project: The volunteers must clean the planting area, carry soil to the planting beds, prepare the beds, and set up an irrigation system. The volunteers will also mark the planting rows, frame the garden, cover it with shade mesh, and remove leaves from the pathways.
    Qualifications:
    *Experience using garden electrical tools
    *Experience using a lawn mower
*Commitment of a minimum of 10 working days
Do you have experience in planting and agricultural activities? (Yes/No)

Wood-Fire oven Builder: Join us in building a traditional wood-fired oven from the ground up in a hands-on, collaborative environment. This program offers travelers the opportunity to learn practical masonry skills while participating in a sustainable construction project.

Volunteers will take part in every stage of the process: foundation preparation, brick dome construction, refractory mortar application, insulation with natural materials (such as perlite or ceramic fiber), and exterior finishing. Throughout the experience, participants will gain knowledge about heat retention, oven geometry, and traditional cooking systems.

This is more than a construction project — it’s a cultural and skill-sharing experience. The completed oven will serve as a community gathering point for baking bread, cooking pizzas, and hosting shared meals.

++It is important to emphasize that all the work is outdoors, so encounters with insects and animals are uncommon but do occur.
