We are a family of 4 living near Clonakilty in the south west of Ireland. We have had many people from countries all over the world staying with us...we love to travel but now with young kids and work life, it's harder to see as much of the world! Workaway is such a great site and we have had some fantastic travellers stay with us!!Our kids are 12 and 14 years old and both in primary school. We are looking for a happy, independant, flexible person to come and stay with us. We are laying out our garden at present so lots of odd projects in this area and any experience here would be appreciated! We usually plant vegetables in the springtime and need help then with care and watering! Sometimes there is painting and upkeep to fences around the garden also. We have a relatively big lawn also that needs to be cut. Summer 2021,we hope to replant some of our lawn, plant some new shrubs and start to build a new hen house.
Generally our needs are very varied and flexible and range from general help around the home, some cooking, dog-walking or helping in the garden if you're interested! The kids love a companion for some trampolining or board games or fun in the garden-they have grown up with people from all over the world staying with us and are very accepting of everyone.
Les has a mini digger and always welcomes someone willing to help outside too! We love trying new foods and if you like to cook you are welcome to experiment in our kitchen! We eat a varied diet, have a love of fresh fish from our coasts, we try to eat good quality meat and free range chickens and some vegetarian as I'm an 'ex-veggie' and love wholesome food:}The area is beautiful and there's plenty of cultural things to do in Clonakilty, a town with great Irish music, a wonderful community spirit and a place you'll grow to love! Clonakilty actually won the Greatest town in UK and Ireland award 2016😊
We have really missed many things with all the recent lockdowns due to Covid but as a result we have walked more than ever and continue to find great diversion in nature.
DIY and building projects
Babysitting and creative play
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
You will experience our wonderful Irish culture through different music/events and places of interest nearby. Obviously, like all countries these are restricted now due to Covid. Clonakilty is approx 1 hour from county Kerry, one of Ireland's most visited tourist regions. There are many outdoor pursuits in this region. This little niche in west Cork attracts many people from all over the world, so although you're in Ireland, expect to meet many other nationalities who have made Clonakilty their home!
In our home, we will treat you as one of the family, and help you achieve whatever you came to Ireland for😊
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
We have two dogs Charlie and Cookie (minature Jack Russell's) who love walks! Miya has a dwarf rabbit and Rian has 6 hens and a Cockerel!! So any help here is very welcome! Generally though Rían looks after the hens, cleaning and feeding them although he needs reminders sometimes!! Rosie rabbit is Miya's baby!
I am working 2 mornings a week 9-2pm, as a nurse in a busy GP practice 25 minutes drive from our home. We all help out with housework, but it's hard to keep on top of it all sometimes. I have various old injuries from a road traffic accident 18 years ago and recently took 6 months off work to allow time for some extra Physiotherapy and general time-out. I will continue to need an injection to my back every 5 months or so. Although I'm happy to work hard, sometimes I just can't manage everything around the house. An extra pair of hands for a few hours a week is so helpful, keeps stress away and we enjoy showing you around in return when we have time. My husband does a lot of machine projects and has his own diggers/hedge-cutter/zero-grazer etc..Springtime and September /October are busy months for him and I like having company around:)

Your own bedroom is very comfortable with ensuite bathroom with electric shower within the main dwelling house. The house was renovated and is done up in traditional irish farm house style. We have an open fire, stunning views from our patio looking across the hills to the Kerry mountains and good internet connection. In summer 2020 we got our windows replaced so the house is warmer and cosier now!!
There is endless possibilities for sightseeing, hiking, surfing (local surf school in Inchydoney) , listening to great irish music, exploring our irish history, horse riding, beautiful beaches 15 minutes drive away, Cork city 45 minutes away, and an hour away is County Kerry where more fantastic scenery and activities await you...mountainclimbing, biking, culture etc. Not forgetting also that west cork is a food lovers paradise!! We have some great farmers markets and super restaurants/cafes in the locality. As a word of warning...many people come to visit Clonakilty and never leave....😉😉

We have good Internet connection, I am only out 2 mornings a week and we don't mind if someone studies while with us. Generally we have a quiet house and we respect your privacy while you're here! During covid, we have already had a student stay with us to help and study at the same time.
There is plenty of space if someone has a campervan and would prefer their own accommodation there.
