Hello all you wonderful people.
What with pandemics and life events, we've been out of Workaway for a long time, hence the very poor response rate!
We're back and we're looking for an energetic, happy guest to help us with cooking and cleaning over the next few months.
We are experienced Workaway hosts who provide a welcoming, peaceful and creative home in a beautiful 16th century house in Somerset. We still keep in touch with some workawayers who helped us almost ten years ago! Ours is a big, happy, creative home and we love to share it and our family life with Workaway guests. We eat together as a family and include guests in our own social events, family gatherings, etc. We are happy to give lifts and to take guests to places of interest in the area. We love hearing about people's stories and lives and different cultures and are always up for conversation.
The help we need includes:
getting the kids' breakfast ready (early start)
helping around the house and with cooking
You would have a great deal of the day free for your own activities.
Qualities and skills we are looking for:
confident cooking (meat and vegetarian)
flexibility, upbeat attitude, organised, fun
Ideally, a clean driving license and a few years of experience (but not essential)
good level of English
able to stay at least one. month
We are creative people - Ben a writer with a great interest in dance and music and Honor a painter. Our eldest is studying fashion.
A note about Covid
Our kids are tested twice a week at school. We both work from home.
Creating/ Cooking family meals
Help around the house
We all love meeting new people and hearing about their lives and cultures. We offer plentiful conversation and treat our guests as a member of the family. There are lots of beautiful places to visit nearby and we can help with transport etc.
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.
Cooked breakfasts and evening meals for family of 5, five days a week. (Suggested hours 6-8am and 5-8pm)
Cleaning and laundry
A beautiful double bedroom to yourself, with a shared bathroom down the hallway
Wireless internet connection
The house is big and there are lots of places to be other than in your room. Outside, there is a big garden and fields and woods for walks or runs. There's also a bicycle available.
We have a very gentle, sweet (non-moulting) dog.
No smoking please.
We speak French, Spanish and Japanese (though all are rusty!)
Ours is a large, very old and beautiful house in the middle of the countryside. There is no public transport to the village but we can lend you a bicycle and give lifts to the lovely market town of Frome (famous for its monthly market, vintage shops, cafes and arts scene), from which you are in easy reach of world heritage city of Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Wells, Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge and Bradford-on-Avon. London is about 2 hours away either by train or there is an excellent coach service. We also have a bicycle at your disposal.
If you want city lights this might not be the place for you but if you'd like quiet, country living in a beautiful house with a loving, creative, busy family then this is it!
Limited internet access
We have pets
We are smokers
Can host families
Because most of the help we need is early morning and evening, this would be perfect for a digital nomad as the days are largely free. Wifi here is usually good.
We never have hosted a workawayer with van before but we do have a lot of parking. I would need to know more about the hook-ups required but, in theory, this should be fine.
5 hours a day with two days off per week
