Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We’re excited to meet like-minded people who want to be part of a more sustainable, family-centered way of life. You’ll be joining us on our off-grid Quinta, where life is shared between our joyful one-year-old and our kind grandad, who we care for daily. We love sharing skills around eco-living, gardening, and DIY projects — and we’re just as eager to learn from your culture and experiences too. We hope you’ll feel like part of the family while you’re here

Help
We’re looking for a couple, small family or a pair of friends to join us and help out with a variety of day-to-day tasks around the Quinta. We enjoy sharing our knowledge of permaculture and techniques such as "no-dig" vegetable farming. The property is new to us and we hope to learn with you. The tasks will be tailored to your skills and interests — we want you to enjoy your time here, so if something like childcare isn’t your thing, no worries at all! Tasks may include (but aren’t limited to): gardening, tree cutting, strimming, grass cutting, weeding, wall and river maintenance, hanging out with our little one and dog walking. There’s always something to do, and we aim to keep things flexible and enjoyable.

We offer a private hut for each couple or pair, complete with a double bed, WiFi, a private porch with seating, and basic electricity and cooking facilities. You'll have access to a shower and toilet block, as well as hand-washing facilities for clothes. You’re welcome to enjoy our gardens and relax by our private river ‘beach’ after a swim in the Dão to cool off!
What else ...
A hearty vegetarian lunch is included on work days and shared together. We also provide basic breakfast supplies for volunteers. Once a week we will have a big family meals together and on others evenings, volunteers will be given a small budget towards evening meals as well as vegetables from the garden (this will vary depending on the season!). Please note that a car is essential to access the Quinta — we're in a remote, off-grid location. The nearest town, Viseu, is about a 20-minute drive away, and Porto Airport is around 1 hour and 40 minutes by car. The final 2 km down to the Quinta is a bumpy track, so be prepared for a bit of adventure getting here!
