Description
Hey! Come and join us at our new place in the heart of Portugal, right by the peaceful Dão River. We’ve just bought an old Quinta and want to turn it into a cozy family home and a meeting spot for good people. We are a three-generation family, living and working together. It’s calm and rural here, off-grid, close to nature, and perfect if you want to escape the noise and enjoy simple living. We love working together, sharing tasks, having fun, and growing as a team.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will benefit by experiencing a simple, sustainable life close to nature and family. You can learn practical skills like eco-friendly gardening, DIY projects, and how to live off-grid.
At the same time, we want to learn from your culture, ideas, and experiences. This exchange helps us all grow, understand different ways of living, and build strong connections.
Being part of our daily life means sharing time with all generations — from our little child to our grandad — and seeing how family life and nature can work together, how you can build up a quinta and life in portugal.
Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We’re happy to welcome kind and open-minded people to join us and be part of our little adventure. There’s always something happening here, so it never gets boring! We’re excited to see what skills and ideas you bring, and we look forward to learning together.
We usually find that couples or families who enjoy a bit of independence and managing their own tasks fit well here. But a single person who is motivated and organized would also feel at home with us.
Our Quinta is still quite new to us, and there’s plenty to do. We try to keep things flexible, so you can enjoy your stay while helping out. We are happy to share our knowledge about permaculture and no-dig vegetable gardening, and we’d love to exchange ideas and learn together.
Tasks could include gardening, cutting trees, strimming, mowing, weeding, taking care of the river and old stone walls, cooking for the family, general house maintenance, DIY projects on the land, creative projects, spending time with the grandfather, helping with our baby, or walking the dog. There really is something for everyone! Of course, not everyone likes to do everything — and that’s totally fine. If you enjoy family life and love a variety of tasks, you will feel at home here. Just tell us what you enjoy doing, and we will find the right project for you. It’s a great place to grow, learn, and have fun together!

Accommodation
We offer cozy wooden huts surrounded by nature. Each hut has a comfortable double bed, WiFi, a private porch with seating, and basic electricity and cooking facilities. There is a shared shower and toilet block located right by the river.
You’ll also find a community space with electricity for general use.
Feel free to explore the old buildings nearby, like the old mill. You can relax at our private river beach, and after a refreshing swim in the Dão River, it’s a perfect place to enjoy the calm and quiet of nature.
There is plenty to do here — from hiking and water activities to simply soaking in the beautiful countryside.
What else ...
A warm vegetarian lunch is included on work days. We also provide basic breakfast supplies for volunteers. We have big family meals, if not, volunteers get a small budget for dinner, plus fresh vegetables from the garden (depending on the season).
Please note, a car is very important to reach the Quinta — we are in a quiet, off-grid place. The closest town, Viseu, is about 25 minutes by car, and Porto Airport is about 1 hour 40 minutes away by car. The last 2 km to the Quinta is a dirt track, partly difficult to drive but not impossible.
If you don’t have a car, it will be harder to get here, but it can still work with some planning. There is a small shop like a mini market in the next village.

Can host families

Can host digital nomads
Sure, we can host digital nomads. There is WiFi available here. It is not everywhere on the land, but it is strong near the houses, so you can work without problems. It is a wonderful place to balance work and nature.

Space for parking camper vans
Sure, we can host Workawayers traveling in campervans. You can park your home on a private terrace next to the river. We also traveled as Workawayers in a van before and loved the experience, so we’re happy to welcome you here!

Can possibly accept pets
We can talk about bringing your doggo with you to see if it’s a good fit. We have chickens, a dog, and maybe goats in the future, so it’s important to think about how your pet would get along with them.

How many Workawayers can stay?
More than two
