Description
I am Marek, community school teacher and father of two daughters (10, 7).
We live in a rural house with a decent garden. This summer and fall we expect quite a harvest of apples and pears so I figured that after several years I would like to invite someone from the wider workaway community to come and help out with the harvest.
I offer a room, food, the occasional company of myself, my daughters and my girlfriend who often visits, as well as a beautiful spot in the north of Southern Moravian region of Czech Republic, about 50 min from Brno and 2:30 hrs from Prague, near the main railway corridor.
Here's the job description:
- Apples and pears are ripening from now till October. I'd love to have some of them turn into apple juice, jams or other forms of preserve. Experience with food preservation very welcome.
- Fixing vegetable patches for next year and do other garden maintenance help, designing permaculture-like elements for the next season.
- English / Spanish conversation with the children
- A stay of 14 days that could be extended based on our mutual fondness.
Expectations/hopes:
- I expect/hope for a respectful person(s) who is also not too shy, somewhat manually able, willing to interact with children, not too loud, reasonably emotionally stable and flexible in their thinking, fond of cats and outdoors in general. Also not expecting too much comfort - I mean there are all the modern amenities like toilet, fridge - but perhaps the bed is on the harder side, no microwave, no wifi (just my mobile data).
- I'd love to bring in a person who is interested in permaculture, sustainable living and society. A natural philosopher would be fine (who can squeeze apples, though ;-), just half-way kidding
- The house is in the middle of a small village, so no off-grid or extreme stuff like that. But I am interested in some elements of independence.
If you feel like exploring genuine not-so-touristy Czech countryside in an international-friendly ambient, come visit us. Besides Czech of course I speak English, Spanish, Russian. -

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I am a person of many interests, intellectual and artistic - with decent traveling and living abroad experience (US, Russia, Spain) but also deeply rooted in our own Czech culture. I teach at an alternative high school topics ranging between languages-biology-evolution-psychology-community development-history-music. The house houses various musical instruments including the piano, guitar or a number of exotic instruments. There are also many beautiful natural sights like caves and castles - we really like trips and always have an extra seat in our car.

Accommodation
A room that is pretty much separate
(not entirely, there's stuff in that room that I need from time to time, so it's not like an independent unit).
Two persons can easily fit in there.
Bathroom (with a bathtub) and kitchen are shared.
The house has a large garden with lots of trees. There's also a barn and meadows and woods beyond it. -
What else ...
We live in a region of genuine Czech countryside with very few tourists (almost none from abroad).
Beautiful natural and historical sights (castles, caves, medieval towns) are within a reasonable distance. -

What I did:
The family started the day early at 7 am. After the children went to school, Marek & Karolina went upstairs to work, while me taking care of Nina, the last child. At 11 am, Karolina & I prepared the lunch. At 12 pm we had lunch. Karolina/Marek picked up the children before 1 pm while Karolina/Marek taking … read more
