Description
Hola & Aloha!
We've recently moved to a lovely finca in the north of Tenerife and would be delighted to welcome some helping hands to join us in our journey.
We are a family of four (ages 45, 36, 5, and 3) and we’re excited about our project to restore the land using Ernst Götsch's syntropic farming method. Our goal is to create a thriving food forest and implement various other eco-friendly solutions along the way.
Before embarking on our parenting journey, we lived full-time on our sailboat. We started in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea, traveled through Europe, and along the Atlantic coast of Africa, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean and exploring the Caribbean Sea all the way to Panama. Our years living on a boat taught us to embrace minimal comforts and adapt to nature, focusing on sustainable practices like solar energy and water conservation. Principles we are happy to continue at our land project as well.
We look forward to connecting with others who share our passion for sustainable living.Types of help and learning opportunities

If you're interested in learning more about permaculture, particularly syntropic farming, and want to live a life more connected to nature, this is a wonderful opportunity for you.
I have recently completed my Permaculture Design Certificate and am currently participating in an active online course on syntropic agroforestry, which you're welcome to join during your stay.
We would also love to share our experiences from years of living on a sailboat, embracing a minimalist lifestyle, and being conscious of our resources and the environment. This is a valuable skill that we are eager to teach, as well as sharing insights into off-grid living and the adventures of sailing. We have our sailboat nearby, and for longer stays, we can arrange sailing with you if it's a good fit.Au Pair Help

Help
We are currently seeking two kinds of help / two people with different focuses:
1. Childcare helper
We have two fun, energetic kids (aged 5 and 3) who love stories, crafts, nature walks, and creative play. Your role will be playing with them, exploring new activities, and fostering their creativity to ensure they have a wonderful time. Experience with kids is preferred. You must be fluent in either Spanish or German, since we don’t want to confuse our kids with more languages as they are only beginning to speak Spanish now.
2. Practical helper
You’ll assist with DIY projects on the finca... You don’t need to be a pro – enthusiasm and willingness to learn are most important. Any experience with tools and DIY‘s is a plus. And if you can help independently that’s a bonus also.
Ideally we are looking for two people traveling together.
The commitment involves helping ~ 4 hours a day, 5 days a week. You will always have two consecutive days off.
Our children are very open-hearted and enjoy meeting new people. However, we value longer stays to help form a trusting bond with them.
We are raising our children to be bilingual in German and Spanish. Therefore, we kindly ask that only those who can communicate fluently in one of these two languages apply for the childcare role of this project.
For families or solo parents traveling with a child or children, this could work depending on their ages. They should be roughly the same age as our children (born in 2020 and 2022).
The hours have been reduced from the standard WorkAway schedule because we're requesting that you prepare some of your own meals.
What’s included? We will provide a large lunch six days a week. Additionally: Coffee, tea, non-dairy milk, and Gofio (the traditional Canarian cereal) or other alternative will be available for breakfast on a self-service basis. Fresh eggs from our chickens, hands down the best tasting eggs in the world, are also available. Any additional items you wish to have are your responsibility to arrange for. We also ask that you take care of your own dinner. There will surely be days when we dine together, but it won’t be every day.
Note: The meals we provide are often vegetarian. However, we follow a flexitarian diet and cannot cater for a strict vegan diet.
We are more than happy to take you shopping with us, and you'll have plenty of fridge and shelf space to store your food.
Every Sunday, our family goes on an excursion and has lunch at a restaurant. You're welcome to join us, at your own expense.Languages spoken

We offer a spacious bell tent with a diameter of 4 meters, suitable for two people. Inside are two single beds (90x200) (real beds no camping mattresses!). The tent is very cozy in a natural environment, along with the soothing sound of waves at night. It also has its own private power setup, heating, and we provide linen and towels for your stay.
Please note that our bathroom is shared and includes a composting toilet. As of November 2024, we still have a shower with non-heated water. All the water we use goes directly into our garden, so we kindly ask that you use only biodegradable products. If you don’t have any on hand, you are welcome to use ours.
As we live in a community, we kindly ask everyone to clean up after themselves, which includes washing your own dishes after use. We also take turns attending to the composting toilet and other community tasks.
When contacting us, please include the phrase "Las Prepetas" in your message. This lets us know that you have read all the information and are genuinely interested in reaching out. Messages that do not include this phrase will receive a standard response and will be declined. What else ...
Tenerife offers a wealth of experiences, with its diverse natural landscapes ranging from the majestic 3,718-meter-high Teide volcano to its beautiful beaches.
A bus stop is conveniently located 200 meters from the property, featuring three bus lines (325, 392 & 460) that provide direct access to various destinations. These include Icod de los Vinos and Puerto de la Cruz, as well as popular beach spots on the southern side of the island, such as Los Gigantes and Adeje.
Additionally, we are only a pleasant, scenic walk away from local town Icod de los Vinos, which takes just 30 minutes (even our two-year-old can manage it!). For those seeking a bit more adventure, there's a more challenging 50-minute hike to the charming and historic harbor town of Garachico.
We are excited to help you discover this beautiful island that we are fortunate to call our home.A little more information

As long as you are sure they wouldn’t disturb the wildlife, we can talk about it. We have many beautiful small birds and large lizards that live here and should be protected. Also We have two kids, two dogs and currently 27 chickens running freely on our finca. So any animal must be well trained to respect them.

My animals / pets
Donna (13 years)
This is Queen Donna. She has been my absolute rock for 13,5 years. Together, we have traveled to 26 countries. Although she is now blind and deaf, she remains the best dog in the world and has shaped my life more than anything else. She will always be my furbaby. Love, Jonna.
Bella (1 year)
Bella has been a part of our family since February 1st, 2025. People found her hiding by some trash cans, where she had been for about a week. She was very scared at first and had clearly been abused in the past. However, it didn't take long for her to warm up, feel safe, and learn to trust again. We don’t know her exact birth date, but we believe she was about one year old when she joined us. So we are excited to celebrate her first anniversary and birthday next February!
Hensli (2 years)
Hensli is one of our roosters and the oldest member of our chicken gang. We have around 30 chickens in total. (Ok, right now it’s almost 60 but many of them are moving out in the coming weeks). I’ll not do extra profiles for each one of them. Just know there are many and their eggs are the best you will have ever tried. 🤭
