    Description

We have lived here for 55 years, growing our own food and living a sustainable lifestyle. Our property has a greenhouse for starting our plants, a large compost box, three vegetable gardens, many flower beds, ornamental trees and numerous fruit trees, plus a large raspberry patch. We recently had some logging done, so there is plenty of help required for the clean-up. Other than using a rototiller, all the gardening is done by hand. We are vegetarian, but I enjoy fish as well. We would be happy to add meat to some of the meals if requested.

Ask us for our Youtube video link and have a tour of our homestead.

They can learn about homesteading and local geography. Jim's book is a local bestseller and is used in the schools. We are involved with the local music scene that includes a summer weekly concert series in the nearby community of Scotch Creek.

    Help

Weeding, mulching, hoeing, mowing, firewood, pruning, fencing, maintenance, and clean-up tasks after logging. A typical day would include some weeding, harvesting, logging debris clean-up and/or hoeing.

During their free-time, helpers could go for a hike, a swim or go canoeing. If they are a musician, there are other musicians in the neighbourhood they might enjoy jamming with. If they want to do some writing, I am an author and an editor and would be happy to help with suggestions and editing. Photography opportunities abound.

One of Kathi's hobbies is baking, and they could learn about baking cakes, cookies and squares. They can help with food preparation and later in the year, with canning and freezing. If they are fortunate to be here when we host one of our dance parties, they can help with set-up and clean-up, plus enjoy a night dancing to great live music. Our first show this year will be on July 13th.

Workawayers will help prepare meals and join us at the table. We are vegetarians, but also enjoy occasional seafood dishes. Most of our meals are prepared from scratch and include food we have grown. We focus on healthy, wholesome food dishes and Kathi is a fabulous baker and makes amazing sauces and soups.
