Description
Hi! I'm Jan, 37, documentary filmmaker, living in Belgium's most beautiful city Gent when not traveling the world. I'm into nature sports, yoga, live music, environmentalism, among many other things. At the moment I'm doing 2 beautiful projects: building a tiny house and furniture in my garden, and making a beautiful, nature inspired mosaic pathway in the garden. Volunteers with building or artistic skills are most welcome!
Also considered: people with good English teaching skills for my 11 yr old son, experienced in gardening, general maintenance, experienced video editors, and/or people who can make beautiful murals.Types of help and learning opportunities

You'll be living in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, with a filmmaker/journalist who knows the city and the country really well. I can give you advice on anything you want to know about Gent and Belgium, and point you into the right direction.
Help
You'll be helping out doing basic building/renovation, or more artistic work, like making a mosaic pathway or paint murals. What needs to be done, will depend on the moment. We can agree on tasks that work for both of us.
You'll be helping 25 hours per week. Payment for extra hours can be considered.Languages

My 11 year old son is eager to learn English. He understands a lot already, but doesn't speak it yet. He can teach you Spanish and Dutch, I can help on the side :)Accommodation
You will have a private room with your own bathroom, in a big house only shared with me, and my 11 yr old son when he is around (co-parenting). The house is in Gent's greenest area, and only 10 minutes biking distance from the historic city center. This house has a beautiful garden, is right next to a park, and right in between the city center and Gent's main nature reserve. And it has its own sauna, that you can use. I will be providing food too. We can cook together, separate or taking turns depending on the day, that's all flexible.
What else ...
I can give you advice on city highlights, historic monuments, bars and restaurants, cultural centers, museums and nature spots. Connectivity is really good. There 's a tram stop a few minutes away, with a straight connection to the train station. I might be able to give you a bike too.

First of all it was tons of new skills I learned. Before the project, I just worked with some soft carpentry skills from time to time. Afterwards I had a clearer vision about the needs and the how to's. I helped building the tiny house, a parking space and with… read more

Jan is easy going and as a reporter, he has many interesting stories to tell.
The food was really good. The area is pleasant : quiet and green with some shops close by.
