    Description

We are Bice and Jürg, a retired Swiss couple living on a traditional tanya in the middle of the beautiful Hungarian puszta.

We moved here because we love nature, animals, and a quiet countryside life. Over the years, our home has become a place where people from many countries have come to share daily life with us, and many of them are still friends today.

We live surrounded by wide pastures for our horses. We have four: one English thoroughbred, two Hungarian warmbloods for riding and carriage driving, and one Holsteiner mare. Our horses are part of our family, not “working animals”.

We also live with six dogs, all of them rescued from shelters or directly from the streets. They have found their forever home with us and are very important to us.

In summer, we love relaxing together by our swimming pool after a day outside, and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the puszta.

Not far from us, in the next town, there is also one of Hungary’s well-known thermal bath complexes, with outdoor pools, hot thermal water, and spa facilities – perfect for relaxing and recovering.

Our helpers usually come because they love horses, dogs, and countryside life. We welcome experienced and confident riders only. Unfortunately, we cannot accept beginners, as we do not offer riding lessons.

You are welcome to ride independently, walk the dogs, help feed them, and join us in light gardening or cooking if you like. Everything is based on mutual agreement, trust, and interest – not on obligation.

You will stay in a private room with your own bathroom and internet access, as part of our home. We provide full board and usually eat together.

We enjoy spending time with our helpers. We often go together to restaurants, make excursions, and sometimes take trips to Budapest or other places. For us, this shared time is an important part of the exchange.

Because we live in a rural area, a driving license is very useful. We can provide our second car for private use.

We usually host for at least two weeks and are happy about longer stays.

If you are open-minded, responsible, love animals, and would like to experience real countryside life in Hungary, we would be happy to welcome you to our tanya. 😊😊

    House Rules
    • We welcome experienced and confident riders only. We do not offer riding lessons and cannot accept beginners.
    • Riding, animal care, and other activities are done independently and at your own responsibility.
    • Participation in daily activities is voluntary and based on mutual agreement. This is not an employment relationship.
    • Maximum helping time follows Workaway guidelines (up to 5 hours per day, 5 days per week), often less.
    • Mutual respect, open communication, and reliability are important for living together.
    • Our home is non-smoking inside.
    • Use of the car requires a valid driving license and careful handling.
    • Helpers are responsible for their own travel insurance and personal accident insurance.
    • Minimum stay: two weeks.

Our helpers come mainly because they love horses, animals, and countryside life. They are welcome to ride, walk the dogs, help feed them, and occasionally join in cooking or light gardening if they wish. There is no obligation to work, no production, no profit, and no business activity involved.
