    Description

I live in a small house on a small island in the Southern Gulf Islands of BC, Canada.
My spare bedroom is a small modern travel trailer. I’m an artist, and there are two friendly Labrador dogs live with me.

Mostly I need help with projects around the property, or sometimes someone to wash, cook, take care of everyday things, 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, so I can focus on just painting for a show or project.
Projects pending are, laying the rest of the stones on the patio, putting the new motor back into the dryer ( last WA person and I disassembled it to get the old motor out!), arranging the in-progress pool walls, moving a greenhouse, putting in a door, putting up deer fencing, putting rough siding on a storage shed, and house cleaning, or painting art canvas gallery frames.
It sort of comes down to what the Work Away person’s aptitudes are.
Local neighbours are hot to hire for a few hours on the weekends if you’re looking for extra cash. Other than they are people I know and trust, I’ll give you their contact info, and it’s all yours to arrange, decline or pursue.
Vegetation diets are no problem, vegan is a bit of a challenge but doable, meat can be on the menu, pretty adaptable.
On the weekend we can go see the sites on our little island, like beaches and mountaintops, or you can set off on an exploration of your own. Very rural.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

The last person from France got a tour of our community recycling cooperative, another discovered how to hang clothing on a line, something I took for granted. The culture is rural west coast Canadian, ravens and ferry rides.
Happy to supportively help fine tune your English, you can teach me some of yours.

    Accommodation

I have a small clean modern travel trailer as ensuite bedroom. Share small house with me and who ever comes for dinner. A pebble beach is five minutes walk away.
The neighbours have a tendency to want to meet you and invite you for tea or coffee. You don’t have to comply, but you certainly can if you want.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Most transport is by foot. Or I can drive you to the local downtown wide spot in the road with grocery store, bookstore, flower shop, post office, liquor, store, drugstore, and a not very exciting restaurant.
On a weekend, I can also take you to the early morning ferry where you can walk on, ($20 round trip) catch a bus on the other side and go explore Victoria BC. Just be back for the last ferry home at 6:30 or arrange accommodation in Victoria if you want to catch an evening event.
My island home also has plays, concerts, music festivals, and local events, but think SMALL!😁

The wi fi connection isn't too bad. Occasionally in the evenings it gets slow or stops for a few minutes because the whole island is streaming Netflix or what ever .The last person here was studying an online course. The wifi works in the little trailer (basically bedroom with en--suite). The house itself is small so working online is best done from your own private (quiet) space.

    Space for parking camper vans

I have space to park a campervan and a blackwater transport wagon so the tank can be emptied. Running water in a cold spell can be a problem as the outside taps are turned off during freezing temps, but there is always water to take from the house.

    Can possibly accept pets

It depends on the pet. I have two large Labrador Retrievers. Only well behaved, non confrontational four legs are welcome. I'm allergic to cats, so if they are in your campervan, fine; but not in the house. Please, no snakes or caged critters!
