    Description

    Hello lovely folk,

Long term volunteer opportunity available, preferably 3 months minimum.

Our family home has been in Portugal for over 40 years, near Vila Nova de Milfontes (approximately 1.5 km outside town). It is a traditional Alentejo house, renovated sympathetically.
We have shared a lifetime of love, growth, laughs, challenges, fun and lived through many changes....

The land is just under a ha, enough for small projects.
Previously, with small reputable dog hotel... (maybe again in the future), also my father was an engineer with mechanic business.
In earlier years, mostly self-sufficient with food and water.
It is the last house at the end of a track, with neighbours close enough for emergency, but far enough for privacy.

After recent changes, it is time for a new chapter...

    Who it would suit-
With a kind heart and good intentions
    Open to new experiences.
Seeks solutions and chooses not to put energy to problems.
Cleanliness is a must (I have weak immune system).
Enjoyment of cooking and yummy food would fit beautifully.

An animal could be accepted...we have a 27yr young cockatiel and a cat.
    No dogglets here at present.
It's important the person is comfortable being left alone a few weeks on occasions.
My wish is for a mutual exchange that supports both of us as we move toward a better future.

Questions are very welcome. Please be patient, I will reply as promptly as I can.

    Best wishes 💜

  • Help

    Help

Flexible for the right person, a room in the house, or caravan, in exchange for a few hours help with basic maintenance such as-

Our first project would be to complete the caravan renovation... the big works are done, she's had new windows, floor and other repairs. Internally we'll give a last coat of paint and make homely for a Workawayer.

Strimming (not in summer), weeding, pruning, planting new trees, keeping the land tidy.
    Painting and small woodworking repairs.
Help organising my father’s tool shed (tool knowledge a bonus).
    Small DIY repairs/projects.
Some tasks will be shared together, at times you'll be left alone in nature at your leisure, whether it be pulling a full weeds, or breaking up wood pallets.
Rebuilding a polytunnel lost in a storm.
On occasions as extra hands are needed, extra outside help would be sourced for jobs such as the polytunnel.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

Initially for the first week or so, it would be a room in the house.

I'd be happy a volunteer stay in the caraven room if prefered.... I lived out of a bag most of my life for work and know sometimes it's a blessing at times to have a private space and close the door 🙏 I am flexible.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Phone reception and wi-fi is pretty good. I have a small portable wifi and it works well.
I'm considering reinstating wifi to the house, it's on my to do list to look into.

    Bubba (2 years)

I didn't want to take another animal at the time.
I didn't feel I could give enough, animals are for life!
He was a street cat in bad condition, but strong. Determined, he followed me for 2.5 hours, the decision was, if he comfortably got in my van, I'd get him back to good health and be sure he didn't have an owner. 3 months and many vets trips later, this is home!
He's a clever boy and learns fast.
After 6 months, his manners have improved hugely, human food is safe, no paws on food areas and a harsh swipe around the face for attention is a no no. Happily, he regularly travels in the van for shopping, beach, even to the Algarve.

    Birdie Boy (29 years)

He came to us at under a year, the owner had left PT.
Birdie Boy is a small guy with big personality.
He has been a less lazy security alert than our dogs through the years :)
I've not met a person he did not brighten their day, a like of birds or not!!
