    Description

Hello! We are a family living on the Costa Blanca an hour north of Alicante made up of myself, my partner and 4 children - 10 year old boy/girl twins, 8 year old girl and an 18 month old boy and a crazy Westie called Lemmy

Vicente is busy working and I am busy with running the household and taking care of the little monsters -so would love to have people around us not only for the help but because I crave community.

We have a busy schedule so need people who have initiative, can entertain themselves and are respectful of our family time. Generally weekdays are madness with work, school, children’s activities so we tend to get home late eat and bed. The weekends are when we have down time and like to get together. Some evenings work well to hang out and enjoy meals together.

The children are full of life and energy. They are open, caring and fun to be around. Stanley loves asking questions and football, Evelyn loves art amd hanging out with her friends and Tilly loves music (dancing, singing, putting on a show) and makeup. Carlos is a little monster who just wants to tear around and play with everyone. The best helpers will develop a relationship with them and if you’d consider yourself “really not a kid person” then don’t come stay with us as they are relentlessly friendly and the whole point of this Workaway is helping with child care.

In return for help I will work beside my helpers when possible, learn from them and teach them new skills, feed them good food and share a beer/wine with them after a day's work. I will respect them and their needs and I will appreciate everything they do to make my home a better place to be. I will welcome them like friends and they will live with us like family.

We are really looking for someone who will be another member of our family and who can build a close and safe relationship with the children . Therefore we feel that a more long term agreement (based on a trial period to make sure of a good fit and that both parties are happy to continue) is the most appropriate. 2-3 months, potentially open to 1 month minimum.

I love knowledgeable skilled people, love patient people, love practical people, love people that say “hang on a minute, let me write that down so I will remember”. I have difficulties with people that need to be handheld through tasks and whilst I don’t expect you to have all the answers… Common sense combined with the confidence to ask questions or voice your thoughts are essential for me. I love self starters.

There are plenty of places to hike nearby.
Driving license would be a plus.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am a teacher, specialising in English and Spanish, so if you'd like to improve either language your stay with me will certainly be beneficial. I will help as much as I can around my busy schedule.

Experience with SEN and childcare which I would happily provide a reference for so if you’re interested in a career in childcare/teaching/pediatrics this could be extremely beneficial.

Living in the mountains in the Alicante province there's a multitude of cultural activities, fiestas, expat/traveller groups, hiking, biking, rock climbing, swimming etc that you could get involved with. With the plus side of the beach being 15 minutes away, it's the best of both worlds!

If you like country life and have experience with looking after children this is the place for you!

We do have a car and moped that could be borrowed by the right helper. :D

  • Help

    Help

The main things we need are:

    Help around the house:
    - helping me out with some cleaning
    - help with meal prep
    - can be pre-agreed “chores” or just based on what I manage or don’t manage to get done 😅

Help supporting our 8 year old who we suspect is neurodivergent (adhd/asd currently in assessment):
    - helping her regulate emotions and/or take over looking after the baby so I can help her in times of dis-regulation
    - activities with her to keep her occupied
    - activities with all the kids at times
    - activities with the kids so I can have 1:1 with each of them at least once per week
    - help in the morning to get ready for school.
    - help in the after school transition
    - maybe taking/picking up from afterschool activities

    >>The expectations and schedule<<

The kids have a routine, they also equally like to throw their routine out the window sometimes.
Weekdays we are up at 7.30/8 to have breakfast and get the children to school for 9. The school is just across the road so they usually go by themselves and I take the baby in. He is at school 9-12.
Monday, Tuesday and Friday the older children have lunch at school and stay for extracurricular activities till 5.
Wednesday and Thursday they are home at 2 for lunch.
Then there’s a complex schedule of the after school activities which include music lessons, football, gymnastics, Muixaranga (very traditional Valencian pass-time/sport which helpers can get involved in if they wish).
We usually eat dinner with them at 7.30 and I like to have them in bed for 9.

Help is needed Monday-Friday mainly before and after school.

Every day is different and generally speaking they are the priority… Having said this it is incredibly important that no drugs and inappropriate behaviour goes on around my children. They are the priority and safe guarding them is the most important thing to me. See rules below.

I equally welcome helpers that work online etc and need fixed hours off- but please do just let me know, I have many schedules and plans and people to consider so just be clear - even better… write it down. I rely on lists and calendars

Days off can either be away from our place independently (bus stop from the village and train station in Denia and we often go out for family days to near by nature reserves, the beach, Valencia and Alicante city) or hanging out here, reading a book, going for walk etc. h However, if you are choosing to relax here just remember this is still the home of 4 kids and needy dog so don’t expect peace and quiet :) - the roof terrace will be your private kid free space :D

Having a driving license is a plus but not essential.

Our house is in a small village 20 minutes from the well know touristic coastal towns of Denia and Javea on the Costa Blanca and 5 minutes away from the larger town of Ondara with a shopping center and all amenities.
The village has a few bars/restaurants, a town square with park, football pitch, pádel courts, swimming pool, convenience shop and cafe.

For those who like beaches, hiking, rock climbing and being in nature there are plenty of amazing places within easy access of the house.

We are an hour away from Alicante and Valencia airports and 15 minutes from the nearest beach.
There are buses coming from Alicante to Denia daily. With train and bus link from Denia to Alicante, bus links Denia to Valencia, train link Handia to Valencia and Denia to our village and surrounding areas are connected by bus.

Accommodation is a bedroom on the ground floor of our house with a bed that can be 1 single, 2 singles or 1 double. There is a wardrobe and a TV in the room with a fire stick and access to Netflix, prime and Disney+. There is also a bathroom on the ground floor with a shower that we only use as a toilet during the day so on the whole will be your bathroom.

We are omnivores but diets will of course be taken into account. You are welcome to cook in our kitchen as you please with the understanding of leaving it clean and tidy. We tend to have shared meals during the week and sometimes at the weekend depending on the schedule we have.

If you have a vehicle there is free on street parking.

Length of stay is totally negotiable so please ask but generally we ask for 1 month +

    What else ...

    *️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️The rules*️️️️️️️*️️️️️️️
In general we want to have fun and accommodate your lifestyle but this is our home and we have children that I want to keep safe so I need people around us that can respect that.
If possible a criminal check certifying no prior convictions would be amazing.

Hate the word rules but I find its better to be super clear…

1.I was a smoker and so respectful smokers are welcome… so outside, being mindful of open doors/windows, not around the kids and keeping your cigarettes, tobacco and lighters away from the kids.

    2. No additional guests without prior agreement (you'd be surprised...).

    3. Whilst I am very liberal in general I have found that people that need to smoke or eat marijuana to get through/or enjoy their day are not people that I currently want in our home. If this is you then sorry but its not going to work.

    4. Equally if you have a heavy reliance on alcohol or like to drink to excess regularly we are not the home for you. I love a few beers and wines, I am happy to stay up late and drink socially but I have heard of helpers becoming aggressive, stealing and spend most of their days hungover so I want to be clear from day 1 that this is not acceptable.

    5. I ask that you keep your areas clean and tidy and respect communal areas.

    +++ Other stuff +++

Sometimes I might say “oh no I forgot to hang the laundry out, but now we have a doctors appointment, would you mind doing it?”- if that sounds like a reasonable request then you are very welcome :)
