Description
My husband and I are empty-nestesr that live in a beach town at the southern tip of New Jersey. Our kids are grown and gone, but manage to make it home as often as possible. My husband and I are recently retired. We enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures. Our area is famous for bird-watching. We are very close to the beach & can bike ride to just about anything in town. We are very much an outdoor kind of family that enjoys cooking, camping, hiking and gardening. The jobs around here vary. Depending on the season and what we are working on. We are usually working along side you and keep the work to fun ratio leaning towards the fun side:)

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are eager to share our life and traditions.Several of our volunteers wanted to improve their English. Getting to personally know someone from another culture, is the single best way to realize just how much we are all the same! It has been so fun hosting workawayers for Thanksgiving, the most American Holdiay:) We love learning about other cultures, the food, the language, traditions! This has also motivated us to travel to many of the countries our workawayers are from. Many of our volunteers have become close friends who we have stayed in touch with.

Projects involving children
This project could involve children. For more information see our guidelines and tips here.

Help
We are looking for some general help around the house and yard. Cutting grass, weeding, help with the chickens, helping in the garden, cleaning out the garage, moving/stacking/splitting firewood, sometimes painting, lite housekeeping. Randy is a project man and there is always something going on around here :)

Accommodation
Helpers would have a bedroom and share the rest of the house with us

What else ...
We don't eat much meat, mostly seafood and vegetarian meals. We are a laid back family who enjoy getting to know travelers, domestic or international. We don't watch much TV, but do play lots of board games :)
Spring is always busy in the garden! Love to have help getting everything started! Summertime, plenty to do for work and play! And fall brings canning season:)

They are amazing people. Open-minded, open-hearted and full of enthusiasm for life. The first night I arrived, I explained the challenges of being a volunteer. Where do you fit into the family-- guest/volunteer/daughter/worker? Sometimes the line is blurred. Chris laughed and admitted that I would definitely become… read more
