This is a great place to be connected to nature and part of a working homestead and also have time for your own pursuits. We have murals in the kitchen and bathroom and on a 15' tiny house trailer. I teach biological farming, animal husbandry, gardening, dowsing, food preservation a few times a year. I love to pass on skills I've learned, even if it's knife-sharpening or how to find square making a raised bed for planting, which I consider basic life skills. I also have extensive knowledge of weed identification and benefits, homeopathy, herbs for tinctures, infusions and teas, etc. Different types of composting, seed-starting, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, seed-saving, pruning and thinning orchard ... the list goes on but you get the idea, summed up in one word: homesteading.
Help
We are looking for someone to help with the farm and animals, help plant, water, and harvest food grown here, help finish building projects, and help organize the two-story carriage house. There will be various canning or food dehydration projects and seed-saving based on the time of year. We ocassionally use a refractometer to test nutrient density of food and use minerals and nutritional sprays to grow extraordinary food. Winter entails organizing, firewood, tool-sharpening, winter hoop house watering greens, feed and hay to animals and occasional mucking barn and coop that can be worked on in small sections at a time. We also have an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven for someone inspired to make dough and pizza. There are a lot of various art supplies for the budding/seasoned artist to use in their free time. I also have many musical instruments: guitars, ukelele, mandolin, flutes, clarinet, etc. for the musically inclined.

Accommodation
We have a 26' airstream near the silo perfect for a couple or two friends that want to travel and work/learn together and live partly off the grid with composting toilet and rocket stove. We have a 15' cedar-lined trailer with twin bed, wood stove and dinette and composting toilet for a single person. In winter months we may have a bed on the heated front porch with three walls of windows overlooking the gardens.
What else ...
The Paulinskill River is less than a mile away and White Lake is 1.5 miles away you can walk or ride a bike to, or if in the evening I can drive you to a shop if you don't have a car. There are many hiking trails. A bus leaves Newton to NYC which is only 12 miles away I can drop you for a day in New York. We have netflix but not cable. Lots of books to borrow and read.

Gina is a really helpful and attentive host. She came to pick me up at the airport upon my arrival and organized my trip on the way back.
We drove around the area several times, she showed me the countryside, and I even got to know her friends.
I'm glad she considers it… read more
