My three-week-stay at Roberts house was a proper retreat! I had to find a last minute accommodation & I was so lucky to find this oasis! He absolutely saved my stay in Kauai'i! It was so great to take the bike everyday to go the gym, to town & the Ho'opi falls next door, where you can cliff jump down a waterfall. Kauai'i is a truly special Island

We stayed with Rob about one month and had a wonderful time there! He welcomed us with open arms to his home and made us feel comfortable from the first moment. The view from his terrace on the mountains is just absolutely gorgeous and our room was very comfortable.
He generously shared his fridge with us and we did not miss anything with him.

We stayed at Robert's oasis for 5 weeks and it was the best way to have experienced this island.
We were responsible for tracking our hours and were able to work longer days to have long weekends, during which we were able to go to Waimea Canyon, Kalalau Trail, Nou'nou, and all of the snorkeling spots the island has to offer.

During our working time, we power washed the decks, cleared out invasive species, picked many many fruits on the farm in Kilauea, created a backyard oasis space from scratch together with Rob. I wish Rob to have many fun tandoor barbecue nights with a beautiful view of the mountain range.
A great host and a kind friend, Robert is a relaxed easy going spirit who opened his home to us and immediately hooked us on dosa. He gave great recommendations for spots to visit and would offer to drop off/pick up at sightseeing spots if he goes to town for errands, although the island bus will get you very far. The bikes have a fresh tune up and the beach is 7 minutes down the hill from home. You will make many friends here, both human and gecko form. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I stayed at Rob´s for the first week of August and it was indeed the best way to start my trip in Kauai.
He actually did me a favor, as I was supposed to stay with a different host, but due to logistics, I wasn´t able to move in with them until the 2nd week, so he welcomed me into his house. That already gives you an idea of how flexible he
… read more is.
In his house you will have your own room and your own bathroom (outside the room), which makes it really comfortable to have your private space. There is a big bed, a little tap and a fridge, even though he is open for you to store anything at the common kitchen.
The house is quite big and the garden is even bigger. The place is very beautiful, the pictures don´t do it justice. The job consists mainly on helping with the maintenance. I worked mainly in the farm, weeding, picking fruits, painting, planting trees, etc. There is plenty to do, and I guess depending on his needs it can vary a little bit, but to be honest, it is most likely that you will have a similar job.
Rob is very flexible with the working hours, you can organize yourself as you want. I worked in the mornings with him because I needed some guidance, but also because I preferred to have the whole afternoons for myself, but one can do whatever, as long as you cover the stablished working hours. I must say that it is quite a physical job and Kauai is quite humid (I would say it is the whole year), so expect to sweat a lot and get tired. In my case, I like it, it makes me feel productive, but if you don't like physical work, maybe it's not the best place for you.
Don´t worry if you have never worked in a farm. Obviously, the more you know the better, but Rob only wants you to work. If you work hard, he will be happy. He will spend time to explain what he needs and how he needs it. He will also show you how things are done and why, which I really appreciated as I did not know much about farming, so it is nice to not only to the job but also to know why. He is clearly fascinated with nature so he shares his knowledge.
The house is in Kapa'a,. In my opinion, it is one of the best locations in the area, since you are half way to everything. I am one of those who think that in the USA you need a car for everything, however, if you find yourself in the same situation as me, in which it is not worth buying a car because you are not going to stay that long, or you can not spend that much money to rent a car, I found different ways to get to know the island. Rob has bikes available that you can use, whenever he can, he takes you somewhere, if you know someone with a car, it's the best, and finally the bus stop is about 10 minutes away. So there are ways.
Furthermore, another thing that really fascinated me about my stay at Rob´s is that he is a really interesting man. He has travelled all over the world and has worked in many different jobs so he has many stories to tell you about. You will learn a lot about Hawaii or actually, any other country he has been living on, you just have to ask. He is a man of the world and it is awesome. At least for someone like me who loves listening to people´s experiences. The house is decorated with a mixed of cultures which can give you a first idea, but also his cooking. He has discovered me the Dosas, something for which I love him and hate him at the same time.
If I had to say something negative (which depending on each person, it can be negative or not), I would say the cleanliness. At least when I was there the house was not really clean. He just doesn´t really spend the time. It is not a problem because he is open for you to clean everything as you like so everyone feels comfortable, but either you do that or you adapt.
Once again, Rob, thank you for everything, you are a traveler so if you ever come to Spain, I expect you to give me a call :), otherwise, I have a feeling I will come back to Kauai. You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I stayed only 1 week at Robert's house and I mainly gardened, weeded, cleaned the decks and repaired the bikes. Robert welcomed me warmly upon my arrival and I quickly became part of his routine. He provides meals and introduced me to the incredible dosas.

I stayed more than a month on Kauai and this island is absolutely sublime! Buses and hitchhiking will help you to visit it if you don't have a car.

The bus stop is 10min walk away and bus service works pretty good.
Rob lend us a couple of bikes and that made it really easy for us to go to Kapaa, the near beach and some beautiful hikes and waterfalls.
Our tasks were very varied and adapted to what each one of us could do better.
Rob was flexible with the work hours schedule which allow us to enjoy this beautiful island.
We learn a lot about Kaua'i and about gardening, construction, painting, etc..
We can't wait to be back with Rob in the future! You can only contact Workawayers who have an active membership.

I have been here in January and thanks to Robert I felt quickly home and autonomous on my duties (: My job mainly consisted in taking care of fruits trees (transplanting, weeding, harvesting, making path, ...).
