Description
A remote, off-grid experience in The Far South of Tasmania on 2.5 acres by the sea. It would be wonderful to have some help with various Projects such as setting up veggie beds, tidying up outside, painting, planting, small building and handy person jobs, and firewood. Oh, and to build a couple of outdoor firebaths! A hot bath under the clear Tassie night sky is a must do!
Far from city life, it is a quiet little bay surrounded by nature and little wildlife visitors. There is an outdoor fire pit to enjoy and nearby national parks, beaches, snorkelling, caves, kayaking, bushwalking, fishing, and bike riding opportunities. You would have your own fully self-contained cabin and if you happen to have a love of photography then I am happy to share some skills with you! There is a Tavern and general store 7kms away and nearest town 20km with caring communities. It may be better suited for those with their own vehicle as there is no public transport to nearest town but not essential.
Being near the southern most town in Australia it can be very cool in winter months with snow on the mountain peaks but there is a cosy wood fire in the cabin and snuggly hot water bottles :) Welcome to The Far South!Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
The nearest electricity pole is 6 kms away so totally off-grid. Management skills to get the best from this system can be shared with a need to be mindful of our natural resources. I love meeting and learning from people from all cultures whether you are Tasmanian or Tanzanian! Living in nature is a wonderful classroom of experience in itself. It is also a good insight in to how remote communities benefit each other. As I run an international Photography and Cultural Tour business and am more than happy to share some photography skills with you also. I operated my own professional photography business for over 20 years before doing the tours. I am farm raised and lived rural for most of my life.
Help
The help needed is mostly general in nature but being able to build raised garden beds and shovel soil would be handy skills for you to share. Building projects can include cladding a small shed, outdoor seating, making some bins for firewood storage, making a kayak rack and making a step to the house. If the weather is suitable some tube stock could be planted and wire covers to stop the nibbly critters! Building a small brick base with a flue to the side of the bath is the plan for the fire baths. An outdoor fitness circuit is in my plans and of course there is always plenty of firewood to tend to! Happy for your ideas too. Brushcutting some long grass and painting outside and inside are other tasks you might like to attack!

Fully self-contained cabin on the property with ensuite indoors and kitchenette. Wood heater and lovely old recycled doors and windows. The cabin used to be the tractor shed once upon a time but has been fully renovated with just a few final touches to go. You will be very comfortable there! Plenty of warm bedding and hot water bottles for warming up the sheets. There is running hot water and solar power with generator backup. Optus is the preferred carrier for phone signal. There is no TV but I use an Optus modem for WiFi. If you prefer to prepare your own meals there are all the items there you need or we can share meals together. We can be flexible and work out what suits you best. Meals have to be planned due to distance to shops.
What else ...
It is a very quiet area therefore a great place to breathe some clean air and be in nature. The small community here like it that way. It is perfect to wander just down the road to the water to meditate as the sun rises and it is likely you will not see another person as you listen to the ocean and the birds and the resident sea eagle might just say hi.
Join in with the locals for the Full Moon Pizza night or one of the many activities that keep people busy!
It is a wonderful community here and Tasmania has a great live music scene also. And food! They do it well!
The roads need care driving at night due to wildlife and windy roads. There will be opportunity for me to show you some of the areas or you might simply like some relax time around the campfire at night. We can discuss length of time you would like to stay and work/leisure balance to suit us both.
Some stunning walks and hikes, endless forest roads to cycle, clear waters, rivers, sea and all the activities that go with it are all on your doorstep.A little more information

I was made to feel right at home and was actually rather spoilt during my time there. Suse is very open-minded, full of interesting stories and knowledge from her travels as a photographer in remote parts of the world,… read more
