  • Description

My name is Dani and I'm mostly from England. Some months ago I bought a beautiful piece of land a few hundred metres from the coastal road into the jungle of Northern Colombia. The land is 2 hectares and has fruit trees everywhere which makes it a really unique place. There are hundreds of species of birds that live on the land as well including a group of keel billed toucans 8-strong, which visit all day every day. The idea is to build accommodation here. So far I've built a road and some pathways and have begun building a beautiful cabana 6x6m, two floors high.
My building style is really different to what you find on the coast. I'm building with steel (frame) and stunning local Colombian hardwood and all structures will be environmentally friendly with compost toilets and solar energy. The build will be luxurious, beautiful and simple.
There is an enormous amount of fruits and veg growing- oranges, coconuts, mandarins, limes, zapote, cacao, passion fruit, banana, coca trees, beans, squash, corn, chilis, tomatoes, avocados plus herbs so volunteers can help themselves to anything they find on the land.
You'll meet 3 beautiful dogs and 5 beautiful cats, and this number is forever changing (we rescue a lot of animals)
I'm looking for volunteers with a great work ethic. If you love nature and animals and the Colombian coast, this is the right place.

There are so many different things to learn and try for the first time here- around building around planting and around basically living a great life in a beautiful place. Volunteers can set their own challenges and see if they can accomplish them. There's plenty of space to show initiative and get stuck in with passion and enthusiasm.
As for the surrounding area, Buritaca and Don Diego towns are just 5min drive. Both have plenty of Colombian culture and the land is in the perfect location to access various points of interest on the coast. Tayrona National Park, Palomino, Cabo de le Vela, Punta Gallinas are just a few places nearby to visit. There is an array of fantastic beach and jungle hostels in the area providing fun activities and great quality food. This is the perfect place to get away from the crowds and explore the Colombian coast and all it has to offer.

I am currently in search of a carpenter with experience who would like to have the opportunity to be a part of an artistic and original project. From start to finish, the carpenter would be delegating and informing colombian workers around all things wood. The joists for one floor have been completed however there is more flooring, wall panels, cladding to be completed. The volunteer will have the chance to put their signature on the project and really put their skills to the test.
Other volunteers are also welcome. I am looking for people with a good work ethic that have plenty of enthusiasm and love getting stuck in. There's lots of different other jobs to do such as planting, building, landscaping, cooking, harvesting, land maintenance, road maintenance and animal care- you can spend a day working a hard days work with my team or opt for a more DIY/nature feeling days work. Bottom line is we have a lot of fun no matter what needs to be done.

The most quaint aspect of the land is the little 'hobbit' house on the top of the hill. It has a beautiful view over the ocean and a palm thatched roof. Volunteers may either stay in a shared room or in a tent or hammocks and there is a shower/toilet and a main space. Plus a a fully functioning kitchen. The house is very open and the feeling of living in the open jungle is strong.
I also provide up to two meals per working day depending on the hours worked.
