    Description

Since the pandemic, I made a life-changing choice and moved to Maratea, a beautiful seaside town in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy. Nestled between mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea, Maratea is known for its crystal-clear waters, hidden beaches, dramatic cliffs, and charming historic centre.

Known as a summer destination, Maratea is actually at its most authentic during the rest of the year. What I love the most here are the different seasons, the variety of activities that you can do throughout the year, and the community across the Valle del Noce.

I am actively involved in local cultural and community projects and enjoy bringing people together around ideas, creativity, and social initiatives. Hosting Workawayers is a wonderful opportunity to create cultural exchange, learn from different perspectives, and share the beauty of this unique corner of Italy.

I share my life with Dea, my affectionate, loyal, and cuddly dog who has suffered from abandonment at birth. She loves walks, welcomes visitors enthusiastically, and has a gentle personality that quickly wins people over. She is frightened of storms and really enjoys when people play and cuddle her.

Our home sits high in the hills with an ever-present view over the sea - always in sight, the mountains as well as Maratea's landmark: the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. A garden with olive, cherry, lemon, pear, fig and apple trees surrounds the house.

I work remotely and sometimes have to travel across Europe, so I am looking for a trustworthy, reliable, kind person who could stay at my place and take loving care of Dea.

You'll have a room with a double bed and a garden all to yourself, in a beautiful, lesser-known part of Southern Italy. It's an opportunity to experience everyday life in Basilicata, enjoy the surrounding nature, and spend time with my lovely dog, Dea.

Whether you're looking for a change of pace, a place to recharge, or simply to enjoy meaningful experiences, nature, and animals, I'd be delighted to host you.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I am very involved in the local community, so Workawayers will be able to learn about the local culture through my lifestyle.

I am the co-founder of the Nuova Libbaneria Mediterranea, a social enterprise which uses the ancient technique of grass rope weaving to produce handicrafts, contemporary design objets and tourism experiences.

I am also well rooted in the local and international community, so Workawayers can rely on an extended network of people with various lifestyles (craftsmanship, permaculture and eco-design, cultural associations, etc.).

  • Help

    Help

I am looking for a trust-worthy, reliable, and kind dog-loving person who is willing to take care of my dog and house during my absence.

    Main responsibilities:
Looking after Dea means enjoying her company, taking her for a few walks each day, feeding her, playing with her, and making sure she feels loved and cared for. Extra attention is needed when it rains and there is wind, as she gets agitated and needs reassurance. She's a very friendly and sociable dog who enjoys being around people and thrives on companionship.

I'd also appreciate a little help with the garden, such as keeping the house clean, watering the plants if needed and clearing the occasional leaf. Nothing too demanding, especially during cooler months. When I do the olive oil (usually in October), an extra pair of hands is always welcome.

All in all, I am looking for a caring presence in the house, keeping things tidy, and ensuring everything is looked after while I am away.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

You will have the following accommodation:

    Your room:
A double bedroom with fresh bed linen and towels provided.
A private bathroom for your exclusive use.
Access to a beautiful terrace overlooking the sea, perfect for breakfast in the sun, reading a book, or enjoying Maratea's spectacular sunsets.
Reliable Wi‑Fi throughout the property, suitable for remote work and video calls.
Heating during the cooler months to keep the space comfortable year-round.

    The house and the garden:
Beyond the room, you have access to the house and the garden.
A fully equipped kitchen where you can cook and enjoy meals at your own pace.
A cosy living area with a sofa and dining space to relax or work from.
    A large garden which includes a tree-net.

    Food:
You are fully independent for meals. I would recommend a small budget for groceries – prices at the local market are affordable, and the food quality is exceptional. There are small shops in the historical center, and a larger supermarket a short drive away.

You are all covered for Dea's food: I leave everything you need for her ready and clearly explained before I leave.

    Other tips:
A car is highly recommended, as Maratea extends over 70km2 and is located in a rural area. Public transport is very limited in Basilicata. If you don't have your own car, please let me know in advance so we can see if an alternative solution can be found.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Maratea is located in the Valle del Noce and is surrounded by other villages. The area is worth exploring and is considered a hidden gem of Southern Italy. There are many trails for trekking and the locals have extensive knowledge of mushrooms, truffles, vegetable patches, fishing, etc.

If we were to spend some time together in the house, I will be occupying the first floor (bedroom and office, with access to the terrace) while the rest of the house would be shared. I have two bathrooms, so we would each have our own.

When I am in Maratea, I work from home and have a dedicated office with access to a terrace with a sea view and a good wi-fi connection. There is plenty of room at my place to find a spot to work, either in the house or in the garden.

We can discuss this: it depends from the pet and how the pet gets along with Dea.
