    Description

Hello, we're Jonothan and Warren, from the UK and now living in Lliria, Valencia. We're a married couple, 41 and 34 years old, with two adorable cats (: Warren is currently required to spend 6 months of the year in the UK due to his residency status (long story). So we're looking for a little extra help around our house and on a few tasks that we have underway.

We're easy-going and open minded. We invite equally fun and open-minded people into our home to work together, and make new friends and enjoy shared experiences.

We live in a villa about 2.5km from Lliria and about 30km to Valencia (25-30 minutes by car to Valencia city centre, beach or airport). We're situated in a quiet area with few neighbours, but within easy access to the town.

Lliria is a busy town, easily accessible by bike (15 min) or walking (45 min) from our home. You'll find pretty much everything you need - bars, cafes, shopping, restaurants etc. There is also a Metro station with a direct line to central Valencia which will take around 40 minutes. Lliria is a UNESCO City of Music; you will often find musical events taking place, ranging from music festivals to marching bands, processions and classical music shows.

We bought our house in 2019 and have renovated it from scratch. The house is nearly complete and it's a comfortable place to stay, enjoy the pool, sunshine and peaceful atmosphere. On less sunny days you can witness the amazing lightning storms in the distance, or in the winter hunker down in front of the log burner with a movie.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

We're a British couple who speak English and Spanish and are happy to help with anyone looking to improve their language skills. We have many friends of different nationalities in the area, so there is always opportunity for a get together to improve language skills and share experiences with people from a broad variety of backgrounds.

Our local town, Lliria, has a long and rich cultural history spanning 2,500 years and workawayers can easily access and explore Lliria in their free time. The town hall publishes a cultural agenda for every month of the year, showing all events taking place locally. These include modern and classical musical performances, guided tours and walks, dance and theatre performances, conversational language exchanges, community street parties and dinners, art workshops and exhibitions, and more.

We often attend these events and would love to bring along any workawayers with us, or just help workawayers access any of the events that may interest them. The majority of these are free but some may have a small charge, usually around 5 euros.

We're open to hosting people of all ages, nationalities, cultures and backgrounds and we welcome LGBTQ+ workawayers (:

  • Help

    Help

As we mentioned earlier, we bought our house in 2019 and have now (almost!) completed renovating it. We're looking for help from workawayers for general upkeep of the house when one or both of us are away/working.

Some of the areas that we'll be working on in our own home include: decorating, garden work (weeding, watering), basic pool maintenance, and general upkeep. It might also include things like dropping a parcel at the post office, grocery shopping for meals, picking up materials etc. We'll fit with your skillset and capabilities, all we ask is you show willing.

Like we said, we're currently also working on another property nearby. Unfortunately we've had a very bad experience with tenants there, so Jonothan is there working most days. With Warren being away, the area we need most help in is maintaining the home.

There are othe areas which may require an extra pair of hands, so if you're competent or willing to learn DIY then that's great also.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

The house is situated on a countryside plot of around 1500m2, with a swimming pool and large garden area.

You'll have your own private, double bedroom with an en-suite. You'll have full use of the communal areas and facilities, which include:

    - dining space
    - lounge area with log burner (for winter) and cinema screen
    - cooking facilities (currently in an adjacent fully equipped kitchen, interior kitchen still under construction)
    - outside BBQ area
    - swimming pool with covered terrace, sun loungers etc.
    - Wifi

For digital nomads / van life we can offer a secure parking space for a medium- to large-sized motorhome with electric hook-up, potable water supply, waste deposit, and internet connection. It is a fenced and gated plot.

We do have areas of flat land for anyone that would like to pitch a tent, however please note we do not provide any camping equipment ourselves. Anyone staying in their own tent/motorhome/caravan will have use of the outside shower and toilet "block", as well as the comunal amenities listed above.

Food is provided, as well as hot and cold soft drinks. We are happy to provide beer and wine with evening meals (18+ only) - we enjoy a drink with our dinner and hope our workawayers can do so too. However please note this is provided on a reasonable basis.

Food will be provided to make breakfast and lunch (since we're usually out at these times) - we can always include individual requests when we do the shopping together. Evening meals will be a shared responsibility. In general, cooking and washing-up responsibilities will be shared between us all.

Please be aware we are a meat-eating household, though we do enjoy food of all types. It is very likely that evening meals will include meat and/or dairy products, please keep this in mind.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

We're very close to our local town, Lliria, which you can access by foot (40 min) or by bike (15 min) via the bike lane. We have electric bikes and scooters which workawayers can use to access Lliria and the surrounding areas.

Lliria has lots to offer as a medium-sized, vibrant town, and is the central hub for many surrounding towns and villages. It is a UNESCO City of Music and will often have free musical events in the streets or one of the town squares. It is an ancient town with lots of history and many different cultural influences.

It's also a traditional Spanish town, so you can also expect to see bull runs, meringue fights, and comunal paella in the town square. From Lliria you can also access Valencia city by Metro.

A car may be available for use from time to time, subject to age, driving history, and license held due to insurance purposes. This will not always be available as the car is often lent to local friends also.

We have very few house rules, but please note the following:
    - Smoking outside only
    - No pets allowed (we are animal lovers, but we cannot accommodate pets at this time)
    - General respect for the house and property, workawayer's bedrooms and en-suites should be kept clean and tidy
