    Description

    About our place:

We are a private, non-commercial homestead focused on self-sufficiency, permaculture, and living in harmony with nature, located in the heart of beautiful Slovenia, in the small peaceful village of Tisovec, surrounded by forests, hills, fresh air, and silence.

Our homestead is about 40–50 minutes from Ljubljana by car and around 2 hours from both the Slovenian and Croatian coast, making it a wonderful base for exploring different parts of the country. We also have public transport connections (bus and train) to Ljubljana and other nearby towns.

We are an extended family of 12 — 5 adults and 7 children aged 6 to 18.
Life here is lively, creative, connected to nature, and always full of little adventures. On our farm we share our lives with dogs, cats, chickens, and rabbits, while our neighbours have sheep and horses nearby. Our lifestyle is based on permaculture, biological gardening, simple living, personal development, creativity, and connection with nature. We grow fruit and vegetables naturally and organize various private events, gatherings, workshops, and community activities on the farm throughout the year.

    What makes this place special:

This is not just a place to work — it is a place to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and experience authentic Slovenian countryside life. People who come here often appreciate: the peaceful natural environment, beautiful forests and walking trails, starry skies and quiet evenings, learning about permaculture and organic growing, spending time with animals, simple family life and homemade food, creative and meaningful conversations, escaping city stress and digital overload.

The area around Tisovec is ideal for nature lovers. You can enjoy hiking, cycling, forest walks, photography, mushroom picking, exploring traditional Slovenian villages, and discovering hidden corners of Slovenia.

Slovenia itself is small and easy to explore, so weekend trips to lakes, mountains, caves, the seaside, or even Croatia are possible. For people who love nature, conscious living, animals, gardening, authentic human connection, and slower rhythms of life, this can be a very special experience.

Depending on the season, help may include (see below for the help needed in June and July 2026):

    - gardening and permaculture projects,
    - planting and harvesting,
    - helping with animals,
    - natural building projects, especially working with wood,
    - simple DIY and outdoor tasks ,
    - cleaning and organizing outdoor spaces,
    - helping remove larger waste and materials from the property,
    - preparing spaces for private events and gatherings with other like-minded families and individuals,
    - small creative projects,
    - occasional help with children, the elderly, or daily family life.

There is always a variety of tasks, so it is great for people who enjoy practical work, learning new skills, being outdoors, and experiencing hands-on countryside life. We appreciate people who are open-minded, kind, responsible, adaptable, and happy to be part of family life and community atmosphere.

    What you can learn here:

You will gain insight into how a multi-generational community centre is organized and developed — and your ideas and suggestions are warmly welcome as part of the process.

You will also have the opportunity to explore therapeutic work with clay or deepen your knowledge in the field of psychotherapy, as the owner of the property is an experienced psychotherapist who works with children with special needs, parenting methods, child development, and interpersonal relationships.

This experience also offers a chance for a digital detox — spending time in nature, peace, and direct connection with the earth. Many of these activities naturally help reduce stress and anxiety, support emotional well-being, and create a greater sense of balance and connection.

In addition, you can learn about:

    - food preservation and organic food processing,
    - cooking and preparing meals together
    - compost production
    - building and creating with wood
    - teamwork and community connection
    - sustainable and mindful living practices.

    What we hope to learn

We love meeting people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Hosting Workawayers is not only about help — it is also about human connection, inspiration, exchanging ideas, learning different perspectives, sharing stories, music, food, and ways of life.

We hope to create meaningful experiences together and learn from each other through simple everyday life.

    Social activities

We enjoy spending time together in a relaxed and authentic way. In the evenings, we often gather around the fire, make a barbecue, cook together, listen to music, dance, sing, and enjoy good conversations and laughter under the stars.

We live a simple countryside lifestyle where connection, spontaneity, and shared experiences are important. Sometimes we organize small gatherings, workshops, or community events on the farm as well.

We speak English and Croatian/Serbian, and everyone is welcome to practice languages and share stories from their own culture and life experience.

    Help

At the moment, we especially need help in JUNE 2026 with clearing and preparing the area for an outdoor kitchen for volunteers, building a fence around the property, preparing planting beds, mowing the grass, and preparing firewood.

In JULY 2026, we will need help with cleaning and organizing the hayrack, creating a herb mandala garden, and preserving food.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We provide a clean, peaceful, and safe place to stay surrounded by nature.

Depending on availability, Workawayers can either stay in family tents on the farm, in a small traditional countryside house with its own bathroom and kitchen, or in the main house in the attic. We provide tents and basic bedding for those who choose the camping experience.

The atmosphere here is simple, relaxed, and connected to nature — perfect for people who enjoy countryside living, fresh air, and quiet evenings.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included every day. We often enjoy cooking together, having barbecues outside, and sharing homemade meals as part of daily life on the farm.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

During your free time, you can enjoy nature walks, hiking, exploring caves nearby, cycling, relaxing by the fire, reading, exploring nearby villages, forests, and the Slovenian countryside, or taking day trips to Ljubljana, the seaside, lakes, caves, and mountains.

There are bus and train connections to Ljubljana and other towns. The nearest bus and train station is about 5 km from our farm. If you do not have a car, we can drive you to or from the station, and we also go together to the shop or nearby town, everything by agreement.

Life here is relaxed, natural, and family-oriented. We appreciate respectful, open-minded people who enjoy simple living and good human connection.

A few important things to know:

We value cleanliness and ask everyone to help maintain both personal and shared spaces clean and organized,
we are not a party place and do not enjoy excessive alcohol drinking.
Smoking outside is okay if done respectfully and safely.
We live closely with nature and animals, so flexibility and adaptability are important.
We are omnivores, but vegetarian meals are also possible,
vegan food can also be arranged, although we do not provide special vegan substitutes or processed products,
communication, honesty, and mutual respect are very important to us.

We want people to feel comfortable, safe, and at home here while also respecting the shared atmosphere of the farm and family life.
