    Description

    Hello! I’m Hurly! 🌏✨

    After a rewarding career as a community worker, I took a bold step in 2013 to travel around the world, and it has been the adventure of a lifetime! In a span of about 7 years, I’ve traveled to around 70 countries, immersing myself in different cultures and volunteering on inspiring projects throughout South America, Europe, Middle East and S/SE Asia. Each experience has been a learning and unlearning experience, shaping who I am today.

    Now, I’m back in Toronto to support my dad following a spinal cord injury. I’m looking for a warm-hearted Workaway volunteer to join us in creating a nurturing environment. Your role would involve light companionship for my dad—taking him for walks in the nearby parks or the mall, enjoying movies together, and helping out with some household chores to help things easier for me as well.

    I personally have used other sites similar to workaway like wwoofing, helpx, couchsurfing and hospitalityclub while travelling around the world. And even before I started my global adventure, my family has hosted many people from couchsurfing and hospitality club. I thought maybe this time around, we can also host someone from workaway. What’s in it for you? A chance to connect with our family and friends, share stories, discover Toronto and perhaps gain insights into Canadian life! No special skills are needed—just a lot of kindness, compassion, flexibility, and a good sense of humor!

    If you have any questions or want to reach out, feel free to message. If you have questions about travelling in Canada, I have hitchhiked across all 10 provinces so I can share my experiences and tips. It would be great to hear from you. :)

    ========

    P.S. Sorry but I have to add this edit > I appreciate your interest in staying with us! However, I’d like to request that you put a little effort into your messages. I’ve received many request that are literally 2 sentences asking to be hosted. I know it can be tempting to use a template and copy and paste your request, please add some personalized touches, like our names and a few specific sentences about why you’re interested in this opportunity. Also, if you are a person who's addicted to your phone, we might not be the right hosts for you. We want someone who can be more present, engaging and proactive. If you can challenge yourself to be that, then please message me.

    If you don’t hear back from me right away, it might just be that I got busy and forgot to respond, so please feel free to follow up. I do my best to reply, but with multiple requests each week, life can sometimes get in the way. Thank you for your understanding!

    HAVE SAFE AND MEANINGFUL TRAVELS!

    While staying with us, you will have great opportunity to enhance your English skills while immersing yourself in local culture. We’d love to show you around some local destinations and take trips together, especially during the summer. You’ll become part of our family while you’re here—tagging along for grocery shopping, appointments, and other everyday activities.

    You’ll also have the chance to meet our friends and discover Toronto from a local’s perspective. If you’re interested, we can share practices like yoga, meditation, and massage. Lately, I’ve been passionate about aquascaping, so you’ll get to see some beautiful fish and vibrant planted aquariums in our home.

    Help

    Since COVID, I’ve returned to Toronto to support my dad after an accident left him needing assistance with daily activities. It’s been a rewarding journey as I help him navigate life at home. We’re looking for a friendly and compassionate volunteer to join us, providing companionship and light assistance around the house.

    The tasks are straightforward—helping with some light cleaning, like tidying the kitchen and vacuuming. Most importantly, we’d love someone who can spend time with my dad, taking him for walks, visiting the mall, or just enjoying a cozy movie night together.

    No special skills are required—just kindness, flexibility, and a genuine desire to be part of our family dynamic. We want you to feel like a friend and guest, not just a "worker." This is a home, not a farm or a hostel, and we’re excited to share this experience with someone who truly wants to be here. 🌟

    I'd love to do a language exchange with you. I can teach and help improve your English. I taught English as one of the many jobs I did around the world. My dad used to be a teacher as well and he can definitely assist you in learning English. :) I also speak other languages so we can definitely do some sort of language exchange. Also, I often do yoga. I learned it in India and Thailand. There are also yoga classes in my building where you could join for free. I can also teach you meditation. I am a professional masseur and can teach you some skills as well that you can offer to your friends and loved ones!
