    Description

    Hello there! :)

My name is Hurly. In 2013, I quit my job as a community/social worker to travel around the world. I have travelled to more or less 70 countries since then - working, volunteering and travelling everywhere - 7 years! :) I have used workaway (and other sites similar to it) before. I was able to do volunteer work in many cities in South America, Europe and Asia. It really is a great way to travel and to experience "working" in different projects, involving different people and communities. It's a cliché to say this but travelling really has been such an enriching, life changing experience for me. To have the opportunity to think and reflect, to unlearn and relearn the social conditioning and behaviours, to know different stories and to experience and see different perspectives and to share. I think life is a constant development and change which requires movement beyond comfort zones. In that process, I am able to enjoy the life as it is - an adventure and a constant process of learning and changing.

Since covid happened last year, I've decided to pause my travel and come home in Toronto to also help take care of my dad. He had a spinal cord accident which left him unable to do things on his own so I am helping him take care of the house and help him with everyday activities.

As I said, I have used other sites similar to workaway like wwoofing, helpx, couchsurfing and hospitalityclub. Even before I travelled the world, my family hosted many people from couchsurfing and hospitality club. I thought maybe this time around, we can also host someone from workaway. The help we need is really light -mostly companionship for my dad and help with household chores. He is now in a wheelchair and it would be cool if someone would be able to just take him to walks, the mall, watch tv with him, etc. He likes to watch movies and series. There's no special skill needed. Just be friendly, compassionate and flexible!

Anyway, if you have any questions or wanna reach out, feel free to message. If you have questions about travelling in Canada, I have hitchhiked across all 10 provinces so I can share my experiences and tips. It would be great to hear from you. :)

You could learn/improve your English from staying with us. We could show you some local destinations and take trips, etc especially in the summer. Be part of our family for the time you are here. Follow us around doing groceries, going to various appointments etc. Meet some of our friends, discover Toronto from a local perspective. You will also learn yoga, meditation, massage, etc. Lately, I've been into aquascaping recently and so you'll see lots of cute fishes and planted nature aquariums and biotopes in the house. :)

This host offers a language exchange
I'd love to do a language exchange with you. I can teach and help improve your English. I taught English as one of the many jobs I did around the world. My dad used to be a teacher as well and he can definitely assist you in learning English. :) I also speak other languages so we can definitely do some sort of language exchange. Also, I often do yoga. I learned it in India and Thailand. There are also yoga classes in my building where you could join for free. I can also teach you meditation. I am a professional masseur and can teach you some skills as well that you can offer to your friends and loved ones!
