    Description

I live in lovely sea side town in SA inside a golf course. I am a single and busy 72yr old lady who teaches music and enjoys gardening. I have an ex-Guide Dog pup who lives here and might also do more puppy raising for Guide Dogs this year. There are also 3 cats with their own enclosure and access to indoors. Their enclosure needs some work, too.

I speak German, play and teach piano and theory and have worked in Rudolph Steiner facilities with International Volunteers many years ago, supporting people with disabilities to develop work skills.

I am used to working as a volunteer myself and have had several Danish International volunteers staying with me over the years, and now even one of their young adult children.

I have travelled mostly in Europe and enjoy chatting to people about their travel adventures. I haven’t seen all of Australia, but have several friends who have travel vans and send pictures or write blogs about their trips.

Thank you for participating in this service, which I only recently found out about when on holiday in Kangaroo Island from a friend of an old friend of mine - met Liz & Scott, an inspirational couple who suggested that I might apply to become a host.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There is a variety of beach-related activities in the local area and some opportunity to attend Film Society screenings once a month , social lunches or dinners at various places . I am close to the wine area of McLaren Vale and within easy distance of Victor Harbour . THere is a bus into Adelaide and returning x1 day in each direction and I could occasionally provide transport if I am not working or heading in the desired direction.

I have a friend at the Aldinga Eco Arts Village about 45 minutes away, which is a very interesting lifestyle for many , especially those from a Steiner background.

THere could be the opportunity to participate in training a Guide Dog pup, if I obtain one this year.

I would love to collaborate with any workawayers with musical ability and could also provide some tuition in piano, theory or composition.

I love keeping contact with people who are travelling and maintain several long distance relationships with people I have previously met - mostly over 30-40 years ago.

    Help

I have a couple of main projects with which I need help - to complete the cataloguing of my Music library - need somebody who knows spreadsheet details in Excel . Want to print out usable indexes so I am easily able to locate any item stored.

I have some gardening which will need somebody who can do weeding and then cover area with newspaper / cardboard and then mulch with a workable watering system .

Some work around the home/shed to sort out, store and hang tools so they are easy to access and return. Some indoor assistance with kitchen cupboards etc.

Anybody who has and plays an instrument could play and be accompanied at my studio .

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

I have a bedroom with 2 beds with its own bathroom and toilet within the house, which is air conditioned and comfortable. THere is a washing machine and plenty of space for drying items outdoors, where there is some seating , shade and a hammock.

I always prepare meals for myself, but have a garlic allergy and cannot even tolerate the smell of this being cooked. Apart from that I can provide nutritious food and snacks .

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Transport by bus into town is daily x1 each way.

I could provide limited trips around the area on days off when I am not visiting my son, daughter in law and grandson in Adelaide (75 minutes by car). A wine area is close (45 minutes) c lose to where I teach at a school ( transport could be arranged on one or more of these days, if no work days for guests * ) and many other beach locations within 30 minutes drive.

I would need to know that guests could manage on their own when I am at work or visiting my family in town . THere could be other opportunities within my Community for guests to make social connections.

ANimals and gardens at my house are important to be cared for on a daily basis and especially during the very hot weather.

Teaching occurs at my studio after school hours between 4 -6pm , during which time guests would need to occupy themselves quietly . I would also be working at School for several hours x 3 days per week, during which time I would expect work activities (*also see above for non work days) to be taking place and lunch to be prepared from food at the house.

I would always make sure that food and drink is available at all times of the day, but would not expect guests to prepare anything for me.
