Description
We live in a cottage on a 5 acre lot, in Topaz, Far North Queensland. It is a mix of established beautiful revegetated rainforest, and terraced gardens. It looks out to Choorechillum (Mt Bartle Freyre), QLD's highest peak and has plenty of bird life, a small creek and walking tracks. We welcome nature appreciators, those looking for some time out or as a base to explore the Atherton Tablelands. We have small general upkeep projects, such as painting or weeding and the ongoing project of puppy appreciation for our sweet jack russel, Rexy. We both work through the week, with work from home days too. It's a great space to go for nature walks, or to drive to nearby crater lakes for a swim. Our space would best suit someone with transport, or a home body as we are 15 minutes drive from the nearest village.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
I can share what I know in the garden or let you know about local creative groups on the Tablelands. We like to listen to music, or attempt playing a few songs on guitar if everyone's into that. We can introduce you to our neighbours or let you know of nearby activities, places to try and spot platypus, tree kangaroos or cassowaries etc. If the wood is dry, we're up for a fire and a social drink. Would love to know about your home country, your interests and ideas you have about land care or gardening.

Help
We would be doing a mix of things together on my time off, but generally you'd be self sufficient. We have small up-keep projects such as painting inside the cottage, raking the nature walk track, weeding or whipper snipping, mowing on the ride on (if you're comfortable with small machinery). You may like to do some creative projects too, like mosaics once we've got through those. I can show you what I know in the food garden and share a little about the land care we do here along the creek.

Accommodation
We can offer a single bed in a spare room, in our small cottage. It is used for working from home one day per week as well. We also have a large, spacious tent with black-out windows which could suit a couple, which we can set up comfortably if you'd like more privacy or to be in nature.
We can cook vegetarian or meat based dishes, or vegan with some extra notice. We are 15min drive from a small grocery store, so will need to know of dietary requirements ahead of time. Dinners cooked and limited snacks available. A good coffee machine at your use. -
What else ...
We prefer one woman to share our space with, or a couple if camping.
We have an inside small dog, who is snoozy, cuddly and occasionally excited, running through the home playing. If you're not a dog person, this might not be right for you.
Own transport is best. I can drive you to Atherton on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but this will be for the full day, until I finish work.
I work from home some days and will need a quiet home then, or am occasionally in Cairns. I would let you know.
As we're a small cottage, noise travels and its pretty quiet after 9:30pm and this is best to respect for everyone to wind down (unless you're camping of course). -
