This beautiful and special part of New Zealand deserves to be on your itinerary, but often gets missed in favour of the tourist hot spots.
We speak english and can attempt french.
We are flexitarian and make our own bread several times a week- depends upon how hungry you are! I'll do most of the cooking, but you are welcome to help- show us your favourites recipes too.
Vegetarian meals are frequent, but I have yet to master gluten free bread.
Sustainable lifestyle and organic(ish- we vaccinated & worm our sheep and cat) gardening as much as possible, and small holder farming practise e.g. chook and sheep management.Help
General physical tasks outdoors, wood chopping and stacking, mowing, weeding, looking for eggs, emptying gutters, painting etc etc! We can teach you any skills you may not already have. Jono has motor neurone disease, and is losing the use of his arms and legs, so we have just passed the sheep flock over to some friends. You would not be involved in any of his care, but we need help around the property for things that he is struggling with. Taranaki gets a lot of weather, with both high rainfall, and high sunshine hours so sometimes we need to work in wet weather gear.
This year we have some garden construction projects we would like to complete- mainly building steps.
There are some indoor jobs for if the weather is atrocious. We appreciate your cooking occasionally, and the dishwasher always needs emptying and refilling!Languages spoken

Own room in the house, 1 double bed, and separate own shower and toilet ( may have to share bathroom with visiting family). Rain collection is our water tank supply so avoid long showers - unless the weather is rainy! !
What else ...
National park tramping and huts or surf beaches within a few Km, large park next door with brilliant mountain trails . There is no public transport from the town to here so you will need your own, use an uber or come with us if we are going to town. Cycling is NOT recommended on the main road- too dangerous, but there is a cool MTB track from our back yard to town that requires time and a bit of effort! There is parking on the grass in the orchard for your van if required.Trail running from the back door can be across farmland or through pine forest and around a lake.
