    Description

In the hills of the Romanian Banat lies a small Czech village called Ravensca, where we live with about 50 other people - we - a five-generation family.

Our great-grandmother Marie, grandmother Anežka, my husband Tomáš, his little brother Valentýn, me Klára and our six-month-old son Leonard. We have a small farm and visitors and tourists also like to visit us.

We live surrounded by nature and traditions, and at the same time we try to fulfill our dreams and visions every day. Our visions are our way of life. Become a part of it!

  • Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

At our home, a cultural exchange is available, connected with life in a Czech village in the Romanian Banat. Moreover, our family is Czech-Romanian-Slovak. Workers can get acquainted with the local community, traditions, rural way of life and everyday functioning on a small farm, which is still strongly connected to nature and the rhythm of the seasons.
Workers can engage in meaningful work that has a direct impact on preserving the local character and landscape.

We will be happy to share with you stories about the history of the Czech Banat, about local customs and how people still live in close contact with nature. We can show you simple crafts, woodworking, gardening, collecting herbs or making various products from natural products that are part of everyday life. We make teas, ointments, cosmetics, jewelry, ceramics or crochet.
Workers can participate in everyday family life, spend time with us and the locals who visit us, taste homemade and local food, explore other Czech and Romanian villages and experience the unique connection of Czech and Romanian culture that is typical for Banat.

At the same time, cultural exchange is two-way for us – we like to meet new people, their stories, skills and worldviews. We also really like to improve our foreign languages, whether in Tomáš's case in English or in my case in Romanian. We believe that this sharing and inspiration is the most valuable thing that we can all take away from this meeting.

  • Help

    Help

Currently, my husband Tomáš is dedicated to running the farm and repairing our house. He is the only man in the house and since he is also a great father to our little Leonardo, he can do much less work than before. He needs helpers. We need help with specific things.

We had a long and harsh winter that took its toll. The winter destroyed the traditional wooden fences around several of our plots and our orchard with traditional fruit tree varieties is in very poor condition. We want our farm and village to retain its traditional character and continue the 200-year-old tradition.

You would revitalize the traditional wooden fences and orchard together with my husband Tomáš, who is 27 years old and incredibly skilled and clever. I am sure you will learn a lot from him, both in manual work and in life on the farm and in living in harmony with nature. But Tomáš really needs some hands to help alongside him.

At our home, Workawayers have the opportunity to hear and use multiple languages in real-life situations – at work, while cooking together, on trips or in conversations with locals. At home, we commonly speak Czech, Slovak and Romanian. However, each of us speaks these languages at different levels. We are happy to include English or German. We are happy to help with Czech, Slovak or Romanian, explain common communication and cultural contexts. We are happy to share languages with you and learn them – without pressure, naturally, during the day, at work and in peace. Tomáš is very interested in learning English.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

We have one large room in our house for Workawayers, which can accommodate four people. You will share the bathroom with us - Klára, Tomáš and little Leonard. Anežka will prepare meals for you three times a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner), otherwise the kitchen will be at your disposal all day long.

You can buy basic groceries at the shop in the village.

The second option for accommodation is to spend the night in our campsite, where toilets and showers are available.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your free time, you can go for walks in the surrounding nature, there are tourist routes that can take you to other Czech villages. The immediate surroundings are beautiful, hilly and suitable for easy trips.
Transport is more limited, but we will be happy to help you organize your arrival or departure. The nearest larger cities are only accessible by car. However, carpooling and hitchhiking work here.
At our home, mutual understanding and respect are important for functioning. We share a common space, sometimes food and time, but at the same time our privacy is important to us.
