    Description

Hi I'm an active recreationalist living in Whistler BC most of the last 40 years, a guy in his 60s with a dual nationality family.
My wife is currently away looking after her terminally ill Mum. I have 2 daughters in their 20s, 1 living in Australia, 1 here with me now but leaving the country end of September. There might be some family or friends coming to visit or help out as well.
My project (s) are varied & ongoing! I am recovering from concussion & have a few other well earned infirmities. The main goal is helping me transition from summer to winter; putting away summer gear including 2 travel trailers, garden gear, house work, getting in firewood, dog walking etc.
Must like dogs, We have a dog I need a hand with. Tokum is an older smallish Aussie Labradoodle, non shedding & hypoallergenic & loves to hang out, walk in the woods (or anywhere.)
We also have an older cruising sailboat that needs seasonal transitioning & maintenance as well. She is moored up the BC coast & requires a ferry to access, chance of a cruise or at least a kayak, paddle board or swim in the ocean. Sighting whales &other wildlife is a definite possibility.
Whistler is a fantastic, beautiful place to live & visit, I have been coming here since a kid, before it was a ski resort. This whole Sea to Sky area is packed with all kinds of recreational, social & cultural opportunities & lots of mountains, glaciers, lakes & rivers & wildlife.
We live in a wooded residential area about 2.5 kl from the tourist village & ski lifts, a short ride on a local bus, there is a stop a few minutes walk from our house. We live in a comfy ski chalet with a wood burning stove & views of the mountains. Use of a bike can be arranged. From our house its 5 to 10 minutes walk to a local grocery store, coffee shops, restaurant/pub & a public recreation centre with a gym, ice rink (they rent skates!), pool, courts, sauna, hot tubs & lots of classes

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I have traveled quite a bit & like sharing/learning about people & places. I have had many varied jobs & businesses; ski instructor, guide, charter sailboat skipper, ski/sport shop owner, lodge manager, construction worker, tree planting camp operations, ship worker, bartender, income tax preparer!
Have a Hospitality & Tourism Management degree, including Chef training & was owner operator of an event/catering company.
Would have no problem with a Vegan or vegetarian housemate if you participate in shopping/preparing. I can teach &/or learn from you as well!

    Help

I will often be working with you or usually close by. Some tasks you will be on your own. Some of the work is moderately physical but any fairly fit gal or guy without major disabilities will be able to handle it. No special skills required prior as I will teach as needed. Attitude is everything! The ability to drive would be helpful but defiantly not required. I am self employed & have a home office & usually work 3 or 4 hours a day, no set hours or days

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

cozy chalet in a wooded residential area, a comfortable private room with double bed & desk, internet, fully furnished, bathroom next door, might be shared

I would enjoy sharing meals with a guest but I dine away from my home a few times a week. How we approach this depends a bit on the wishes & dietary habits of the person. Because they are staying in a world class 4 season resort with many things to do most of my stays are not home much when not working.

  • What else ...

    What else ...

Lots of recreation, social & cultural events in the Whistler area. some house rules; no smoking or drugs, loud music. no visitors with out prior approval. Whistler has good, cheap local buses. Extensive paved trail network for walking or riding around the town. Honestly 1000s of kilometers hiking & mountain biking trails in the area.
