    Description

This is a community space where education, art and farming come together.

The founder and keeper of the space is Sajith, a poet, educator and ayurvedic doctor. The space is located in a small village in the north-western province of Sri Lanka and was born with the intention of providing the community and visitors with a free space for all kinds of artistic expression: from poetry nights to music jams, from collective mural painting to herbal printing workshop for children, from traditional Sinhalese music to international artist performance, it has already hosted a variety of artists and it's looking forward to hosting more!

Helpers will find a comfortable room with two beds provided with fan and mosquito net, a beautiful outdoor shower and toilet, a library with books in Sinhalese and English, and a lot of space and time for their free expression. The place is immersed in the jungle and you will have the opportunity to meet some local wildlife like squirrels, peacocks, monitor lizards, mongoose and all kinds of singing birds. All around you will find a variety of trees, among which many coconut trees, jackfruit, pomelo and many more. Just across the road there is a little shop where you can buy all the basic things you need. A nice lake where you can swim is located approximately 1.5km far from the place. In the area you will find also a traditional handloom factory where you can learn about batik and find some beautiful handwoven fabrics and clothes. If you'd like to experience the ancient knowledge of Ayurveda, Sajith is always open to share some of his expertise and to assist you in finding your balance with herbal medicines and oil massage. He can give Ayurveda classes and teach herbal medicine.

You will be expected to help out in the mornings for 3/4 hours with the daily projects going on, such as gardening, renovating, keeping the space clean and tidy, preparing for events and other activities according to the needs of the moment. The meals will be shared and cooked together at Sajith's house, 100 meters far from the community building.

All visitors are warmly invited to share their art and knowledge by hosting workshops for the community: yoga, singing, dancing, storytelling, language classes, theater improvisation, paper planes, origami... anything you do could be an interesting and enriching experience for local children and youth.

The village is easily reachable by bus from Katunayake airport and is well connected to all the major interest points of Sri Lanka.

During the day people from the village could stop by the community space for a chat, a medical consultation with doctor Sajith, a shared meal or simply to play music and have fun together. Anyway, if you prefer to be in the quiet privacy of your room you will always be free to close the door and enjoy some solo time.

The community needs some help to keep growing and thriving, but it also offers a quiet environment for your relax, creativity and enjoyment.
