    Description

We are a family of five living in Cuernavaca, about a 10 minute walk from the Cuernavaca's center. My husband is a visionary arts painter and I'm an arts and social fund raiser and manager trying to turn into an artist myself, mostly through singing and writing. We just recently moved to Cuernavaca after living 8 years in Cuetzalan, a town in the mountains of Puebla where the great majority of the people is Náhuat speaking. Over there we worked in an NGO with an education and arts project. We learned a lot over there, about Náhuat culture and life in general. But we had to come back to the urban life about a year ago because we couldn't stand so much humidity in the mountains, and we're still adjusting to Cuernavaca. Now we are opening an arts and community space in our home, through two arts' lessons during the week, one for children 5 to 12, and another one for youth over 12 and adults.

The garden is very big, and is tended by a couple from Taxco and their son, who also live here. We have three big dogs and a pool with no heat. In the garden we are currently trying to keep a compost.

We are looking for someone who would like to learn Spanish, mexican cuisine (I love cooking), and/or arts (intuitive painting or deep singing), in exchange for someone who enjoys permaculture, or child caring in exchange. We can also offer a small sized library (mostly in Spanish), an open garden to read or work in, and the opportunity to engage in creative projects with us. Finally, I'm also a certified Kundalini teacher, and would be glad to share my practice with anyone willing to meditate and/or do yoga exercises in the mornings.

Ideally, we would love to welcome someone who is open to sharing child-caring moments with us—playing, storytelling, creating together, reminding the kids to clean and order their spaces, or simply being present in a kind and respectful way with our children. We share the cooking duties in between family members, and you'd be expected to cook at one or two meals a week for everybody, The breakfast and dinner we can do by ourselves, and though you can use the food in the fridge, you can also have it on your own or share it with us (as you like best).

More than anything, we believe in learning from one another—through conversation, art, food, daily rituals, and the sharing of perspectives. Having lived in an indigenous town for many years, we deeply value the richness that comes from embracing different ways of life. Whether you're an artist, a nature enthusiast, a language learner, or just someone curious about Mexican culture and family life, we'd love to co-create a meaningful and nourishing time together.

Our home is a space in transformation, and we’re excited about building community as we grow. If you’re someone who appreciates authenticity, collaboration, and cultural dialogue—we’d be happy to hear from you.

  • Help

    Help

We would like help mostly with daily home tasks such as:

    - Cooking:
we would expect for you to cook and share at least two meals a week (we usually eat around 3:00pm). Breakfast and dinner you can have on your own and cook only for you. We would provide the food for you to cook with.

    - Kitchen's maintenance:
we usually share these tasks: cooking and feeding the dogs; cleaning the fridge; taking the organic remains to the compost; taking out the trash from the multiple trash cans in the house .

    - General order in the house:
having kids in the house can be hectic. And although we are actively trying for the kids to clean up after themselves, they are learning still. So, once a week we hope you can help us to order whatever is out of place.

    Arts and crafts:
If you have experience in music (singing or playing instruments), in visual arts (drawing or painting in different mediums); sculpture, or in general arts and crafts for kids, we would love for you to give one two hour lessons a week. Depending on your experience and skills this can be paid.

    Gardening and permaculture:
If you have any experience with permaculture or gardening skills, we would be delighted to have someone teach us more.

    House maintenance:
The house needs some general improvements, that if you know how to do would be greatly appreciated.

Cuetzalan del Progreso is a very nice touristy town and has wonderful natural surroundings to explore. There are many caves and waterfalls all around; one archeological site; nice cafes with music on weekends; etc. The main town is around 15 minutes away by car or public transport, and you can take transport from outside the house.
