Description
Hello! I’m Iolanda, a single mum living in Cangas (Pontevedra), a lovely coastal town in Galicia, north-west Spain. We live in a peaceful home near the sea and nature, with good transport connections to Vigo.
I work as a transpersonal grief companion, sometimes from home, so we value a calm and respectful atmosphere. My 8-year-old son is curious and kind, and enjoys playing, learning and discovering other cultures.
We’re looking for a friendly, responsible woman who would like to share family life with us for a while – spending time with my son, practising English, and helping him feel safe and respected.
In return, you’ll have your own room and private bathroom, and plenty of time to explore, rest, or simply enjoy a slower pace of life. We hope to meet someone caring and open-hearted who enjoys simple, mindful daily life.

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
You will experience daily life in a small coastal town in Galicia, with beaches, forests and a strong local culture. You can explore Cangas, Vigo and the Cíes Islands on your free time.
I can share with you my language (Spanish and Galician), local traditions, and my experience working as a grief companion if you are interested in emotional support, rituals and end-of-life topics from a human, non-clinical perspective.
At home we value calm, honesty, respect and good communication. If you enjoy meaningful conversations and simple daily life, you may feel at home here.

Help
We mainly need help with:
Spending quality time with my son (playing, talking, practising English, sometimes going to the park or the beach together – always with my permission).
Light help in the house (keeping common areas tidy, helping with simple meals or washing up).
Language exchange: speaking English with Arun and with me in daily situations.
No heavy physical tasks and no cleaning like a professional cleaner. The focus is on connection, language practice and light support in our daily life.

Improving our English is one of the main reasons we host volunteers. My son Arun (8 years old) is very curious and learns quickly, especially through games, conversation and everyday situations. I also want to improve my English, so speaking together at home is a big part of the experience we offer. We are looking for someone happy to talk, play and interact in English with us in a natural and patient way. Your presence and your language will make a real difference for both of us. In return, I can help you with Spanish (and Galician, if you are interested), through daily life, conversation, and simple cultural immersion.
Accommodation
Our home is a bright, quiet apartment in Cangas (Pontevedra), on the coast of Galicia. We live in a residential area only a few minutes from the town centre, small beaches and nature trails. From the house there are beautiful views of the Ría de Vigo, and Vigo city is just across the water, easily reachable by boat or bus.
You will have your own private bedroom and your own private bathroom, ensuring privacy and comfort during your stay. The bedroom is spacious, with natural light, a comfortable bed, storage, a desk, and access to Wi-Fi. The private bathroom is fully equipped.
The common areas include:
* A large living room with a terrace and views
* A fully equipped kitchen
* Several balconies/terraces for relaxing or eating outside
* A rooftop communal terrace
Our home is warm, clean and well cared for. We ask for the same respect in return. This is a calm and respectful environment, ideal for someone who values tranquillity and a family atmosphere.
What else ...
Cangas is one of those places people discover by chance and never forget. If you enjoy nature, coastline paths and quiet living, this town will feel like a gift. You can walk the spectacular Costa da Vela, take a short ferry to the Cíes Islands National Park (right in front of our home), or spend your free time exploring the many white‑sand beaches, forests and viewpoints around us. Everything is close and easy to reach without needing a car.
Although the area is peaceful, you will not feel isolated. The ferry to Vigo runs regularly throughout the day, and the trip itself is beautiful. In less than 20 minutes you are in the city centre, with access to shops, cafés, cultural events, concerts and nightlife.
Our Lifestyle & House Rules
Family rhythm:
We keep a simple and calm weekly routine. On school days we usually wake up around 7:30 AM, and nights are quiet so Arun can rest for school. We look for someone que naturally respete este ritmo.
Smoking:
We are a non‑smoking home. For this reason, we can only host volunteers who do not smoke.
Meals:
We eat a varied diet (fish, meat, vegetables). We are happy to share meals when it flows naturally, and we also respect your independence if you prefer to cook your own food or explore local restaurants.
Cleanliness:
We care about keeping the home tidy. We simply ask that you maintain your private room and bathroom clean, and take responsibility for your things in the shared spaces.
Our cat:
We live with a friendly cat who moves freely around the home. If you have allergies, this is important to know before applying.

Can host digital nomads
About Digital Nomads & Travelers Our home is fully equipped for remote work (high-speed Wi-Fi, quiet mornings, terrace), so Digital Nomads are very welcome. However, you don't have to be a nomad! We are equally happy to host students, travelers on a gap year, or anyone simply looking to discover Galicia. Whether you are working remotely or just traveling, the priority for us is the cultural exchange. We are looking for someone with enough free time and energy to play with Arun and share moments with the family, not someone who needs to be locked in their room all day. Other notes: Minimum Stay: To help Arun feel comfortable and build a connection, we prefer stays of at least 2 weeks. No Smoking: We are a 100% non-smoking household
