    Hello Workawayers!
If you would like to stay with a local Kichwa family and have the best experience with making cacao and chocolate, then we are happy to welcome you in our small artesanal project!
The location of our cacao farm is in the beautiful area along the Napo River in Tena, Ahuano. It is a 4h ride from Quito.
We are a family of Don Cesar and Doña Magdalena, and we will be happy to receive you as part of our big family to enjoy the Amazon jungle, practice your Spanish and learn some Kichwan:)

You will definitely have the best local experience while living with us. We can go fishing in the river, cook local food together, visit nearby attractions and of course, we would be happy to show how to make cacao nibs and chocolate!

    Help

We are mostly a cacao farm, producing raw cacao to trade. Cacao harvesting season starts in March and this is time when we need volunteers the most. We also have some fruit trees and harvesting fruits is also something we need a help with.
We are about to host tourists for a "live like a local" experience and if it is not a cacao harvesting season, we would need a help a hand to Don Cesar with translation if the guests do not speak Spanish. So, it would be a great chance to practice your Spanish!
As part of your daily task (1 hour) we would ask to teach or practice English with our daughter Karen and granddaughter Odalis, who live with us. No prior teaching experience is needed - you can use an e-book we have already started or you can bring your own material in case you have anything relevant.

  • Accommodation

    Accommodation

ACCOMMODATION. We have a cabin with two rooms. Each room has a queen bed, so suitable for couples as well. We also have an electricity and WIFI, however, currently, there is no shower in the property.
FOOD. As part of our family you will have the same food as us, however, if you have some food restrictions or you are a vegeterian, please let us know in advance, so we have everything ready for your arrival. Our food is rather simple, so there are a couple of more options if you want to have anything different:
    1. There is a market in a nearby village every Sunday, so you can go there with us and buy fruits or vegetables.

In your spare time you can swim in Napo river, visit "Amazoonico" Wild animals rescue reserve, Lagoon de Caymans, Butterfly Garden or spend a day in Tena. If you want to have Amazon jungle experience, we can also help you with organizing a tour to Yasuni or Cuyabeno National Parks as we have a small tour agency.
