    🌿 FAMILY DESCRIPTION
    We are a warm and open-minded family living in the city center of Catania, Sicily.
    We are a mum, a dad, and two boys aged 8 and 10.
    We have been hosting Workawayers since our children were 3 and 1 years old, so we are experienced hosts and we truly value cultural exchange. Our home is respectful, organized and relaxed. Communication and mutual respect are very important to us.
    We live in the heart of Catania, well connected by public transport. The sea and beaches are not within walking distance, but they are easily reachable by bus or metro. Sicily offers beautiful landscapes, Mount Etna, historic architecture and a vibrant culture.
    During the mornings, when the children are at school, you will have free time to explore the city, relax, study or travel around the island.
    Our boys are energetic, curious and intelligent. They love sports, building, creating and hands-on activities — but like many children their age they are very attracted to video games. For this reason, we are looking for someone who can encourage real-life activities and natural English conversation through creative and engaging alternatives.
    We are especially interested in someone who sees this experience as educational and enriching for children, not simply as free accommodation abroad.

    🌸 IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION ABOUT THE POSITION
    This is a volunteer cultural exchange position through Workaway.
    There are no full childcare responsibilities:
    You will never be left alone with the children.
    You will not be required to take them out alone.
    You will not be responsible for school pick-ups or drop-offs.
    One parent is always present at home during your time with the children.
    The hours requested are limited and light, and for this reason we do not offer financial compensation.
    We offer accommodation, meals and a respectful family environment in exchange for a few hours of cultural and language interaction.
    “Sometimes the children might be busy or not in the mood to play, so it would be great if volunteers could plan small activities for the next day and help with light household tasks, like watering plants or walking the dogs, always in a flexible and fun way.”

    🌸 HELP WE ARE LOOKING FOR
    We are mainly looking for help in the afternoons, after school.
    Typical schedule:
    Morning: free time
    14:00 – children return from school
    Lunch
    Homework time
    16:30–19:00 activities and play
    Weekends are completely free.
    We would love someone who can:
    • Speak English naturally with the children
    • Propose creative, sporty or hands-on activities
    • Encourage outdoor play (park, bike rides, simple games)
    • Organize small weekly projects (cooking, crafts, storytelling, mini challenges)
    • Support English homework when needed
    • Help maintain a healthy routine with limited screen time
    Important:
    Video games are not considered a main activity during your time with the children.

    You are always welcome to have lunch and dinner with us, as we value sharing meals together.
    However, we appreciate small collaboration such as helping to set and clear the table, as part of normal family life.
    At the same time, we completely understand if sometimes you prefer to organize yourself independently, eat at different times or stay out longer. We respect your freedom and personal time.
    The Workawayer's room is very large ... has beautiful frescoes on the very high ceilings ... Two private balconies matrimonial beds ,free WiFi connection, desk.

    We live in downtown Catania, surrounded by shops, Historic fruit and vegetable market,restaurants, bookstores, and cafés.
    The area is well connected by metro and train, perfect for exploring Syracuse, Taormina, Mount Etna, and many other beautiful spots in Sicily.
    The sea is not just outside our door, but it's easily reachable by public transport.
