    Description

    Hello ! ... I'm David.
A mature english guy who has discovered a serene paradise here in the forest hills of the Massif des Maures in the south of France.

The concept of living off-grid is now more attractive than ever...
Properties without mains electricity and mains water are much cheaper to buy.
You will never have electricity bills or water bills !!!
Yearly taxes on such properties are generally lower.
You can grow your own fruit and vegetables and become self-sufficient by utilizing solar and wind power.

The experience I am offering is challenging at first, but most people adjust to this lifestyle after the first week.
It's like going back 100 years. You have to hand-wash your clothes. This water, (including shower water) is then recycled as water to flush the toilet. Dish-water is also recycled.
We use solar lamps for lighting.

We have 2 very strict rules : No grilling or outside fires. Not even on the terrace. We are living in the middle of a very dry forest. It's a NO-GO !!! Only workawayers are allowed at the house. NO PARTIES. No inviting locals up to the house.

For insurance reasons we cannot offer you bicycles. A bike is great to have, so if you want you can pick up a second hand one from the local flea-market...and sell it on when you leave.

I accept volunteers who can stay a minimum of 10 days. Depending on availability, you may be able to stay longer.
You must have a down-to-earth/ non-fussy mentality to fit into this simple style of living. Please see our feedback !

I'm looking for helpers to organise and clean the inside/ exterior of the house and tidy up the garden by cutting bushes etc. The work is straightforward and varied...and you will have plenty of spare time to explore the beautiful surroundings because I'm only asking for 2 hours help per day. There is a lake and the small mountain/rock of Roquebrune-sur-Argens 5 km away which makes a nice daytrip. Or you can take the bus from Roquebrune to Frejus/Saint Raphael and the famous Cote d'Azur beaches for just €1.50.
To get to the bus stop and town it's a beautiful 40 minute walk through the forest, which will free your senses and exercise your body.

While staying at the house you will be organising your own meals and cooking on a three ring calor gas stove, (no oven). Because I only ask you for 2 hours help per day, (instead of the usual 5 hours requested by most hosts) you will be providing your own food. There are bakeries in the village offering freshly made sandwiches and cheap snack-bars offering pizza etc.
If you are on a strict budget you can buy your groceries at the local Spar supermarket and prepare your meals on the gas stove.I
Tap water/drinking water is provided in 20 litre canisters. Water to shower is limited, but can also go for a swim in the local lake or river.

You will have your own private-sphere accommodation directltly in the house or in our small caravan.. This accommodation is limited to 3 places for singles or couples....and is offered on a first-come-first serve basis.
The tiny stone cottage is situated 200 meters up in the peaceful forest with stunning views. It is 3.5 kilometers from the town of Roquebrune-sur-Argens.

The property is rustical and off-grid so mobile data is essential !!! There is no wifi provided. A company called Free Telecom offers an excellent deal with a sim card for €10 and monthly fee of €9 for 150 giga.
You will need a solar charger for your phone and a headlamp or batterie-torch is advisable.

Staying at the house is very much a back-to-basics experience and you will be outside your comfort zone, but if you love nature and the outdoors and have a sense of humour it will be a wonderful experience, as you can see by the feedback.
Clean drinking water is supplied in cannisters. There is a rain-water tank under the terrace for showering and washing the dishes, etc. It's a bit like glamping...
No fancy rainforest showers on offer here, (instead, it's more of a Robinson Crusoe style scrub-down)...but it still gets the job done !
We also have 5 litre solar water cannisters which provide hot water for showering in the evening after a sunny day.
Living here and being able to enjoy the peace of nature also means that there are no nearby shops, cafes etc. The nearest supermarket is 3.5 km away.
You have 2 free days per week.

To get here you will have to make your way to Saint Raphael and then take a local bus, (no 4) to Roquebrune-sur-Argens village. I will collect you from there.
Unfortunately, on 3 occasions people left the house without notifying us and left the house wide open. For this reason we now ask for a €20 cash deposit for the house keys. You will receive a written receipt and when you leave the property you will of course receive your €20 cash back.
Please ensure you have travel and health insurance !
I look forward to welcoming you !!!

    David.
